Hi was just wondering if any1 has fitted a straight thru exhaust to their disco:confused: was it a DIY job or proffessionally done:confused: If so any difference to perfomance ie: turbo lag, cheerz

A straight through is something I'm maybe wanting to do to mine as well.... hopefully someone will post some info up :)

I've blanked EGR off already and I'll remove cat after I've made my mind up on exhaust.

you could make your own with welder ,but you can buy straight through pipe reasonably to replace silencer ,will help a little as restricting the exhaust gasses dosent help turbo, more likely to reduce lag although not dramatically bigger intercoolers increase lag

I have a TD5 Alive exhaust on my Disco, nice and easy to fit and sound great.

Brother in law had a straight through on his 300tdi (no boxes) but was a bit loud for living in a small town so is now running with a back box only.

I'd agree that no silencers on a TDi is a bit too loud, sounds like an old tank. Back box only is the best compromise.

Having said that, I've had the above on my Disco 300TDI and performance wise I doubt there's any advantage atall.

The exhaust needed changing though, and the straight through middle pipe was cheap enough, and already had a decat, sounds nice the way it is.

Be careful with the bolts at the turbo manifold though, they're a bastard for shearing. Soak them in penetrating oil like plusgas, or even diesel for a while before going at them to give yourself best possible chance. And then cake new bolts in copper grease on refitting.

Having tried this on both TDi and TD5 engined Disco's and these are my observations:

1. Works OK on manual box cars but on autos, due to the way the Torque Converter and gearbox work, it's not a nice noise at all. Just a drone. It's so bad the one I bought is in the shed.

2. On TDi's I found that the power and mph were negatively affected by a centre straight-thru pipe.

De-EGR and De-Catting are great mods, but the centre pipe thing I don't like at all.

just found this threaqd after as i have just ordered a straight through system for my td5 auto, but ive got ive got the exhaust coming out of the side! it should be arriving tommorow so ill let you know how i get on!

i got my down pipe and centre section from terrain 4x4 in hastings for £135 and my side exit rear pipe from devon 4x4 for £125!

I had straight through on my disco and have the same on my 90...

got the replacement straight pipe, to replace the mid box, from paddocks or mail order 4x4, cant remember which...

the rest I made of old parts of exhausts I had laying around

My Janspeed system is not straight through, the centre and rear box have baffles it would be far to loud and my engine wouldn't run correctly if it was, but the throttal responce after fitting was amazing but I doubt if you would see that much improvement with a Tdi diesel engine... Not that I know any thing about diesel :)

mate of mine did it done a 300 defender concersion. he did it with a flexible metal pipe.
looked like something from the back of a tumble dryer.

but it worked, took in so much air the intake regularly collapsed until he replacedit with drain pipe :D

is there anythink i can stick in the exhaust anywhere to silence it at all if its too loud?

like wire wool or something??

Will a Disco 2 V8i Auto take an adapted silencer (down pipe especially - the rest seems OK but the NS cat is shot)?

Any recommndations for reasonable price / reliable second hand? I'm in Belgium - difficult to source easily here thus probably need to ship.
