It's true, my Discovery 200TDi steering wheel/column is making some very strange sounds at the moment very similar to a donkey!

Any suggestions (i'm not about to feed it a carrot so don't suggest it pls) welcome.

I've been having power steering problems for a few weeks, I posted a couple of weeks back looking for advice on sorting it.

After some useful advice I checked the steering column joints out, replaced the PAS pump with a reconditioned one and bled and refilled the power steering fluid.

Everything was fine for a few days, now its the same as it was to start with, pwr steering seems ok untill the cars been running for a while then it's very heavy when I turn & i'm getting strange noises from my steering wheel/column.

Could the recon PAS pump I got from Landrover be knackered after only a few days or does this sound like a power steering box issue as it has been leaking oil for a while (recon one on route).

What are the usual symptoms of a faulty power steering box on a Discovery 1?

I should also mention that i've just had the front drivers side hub replaced as it had become a bit loose & it was looking likely that my front wheel would overtake me on the motorway. The problems with the steering have been there with the old & new hubs though.

Any suggestions welcome, ta.

faulty ps box can cause the steering to go stiff, so hopefully the new one should short it out. have you checked the ps pump drivebelt !
are you sure its a eeaww rather than a grunt or moan !!

after changing the ps pump, its almost certainly the ps box.
ive heard similar he-aw noises in other cars. 90% caused by US steering racks/boxes.
