Hi all newbie here.
We have a 200 possible 300 disco tdi engine and auto box.
we have put this engine and box into an old 110 defender, all was fine got engine started runs fine no problems.
However we seem to have lost all drive gears, no matter what we do or have done still the same, Changed atf cleaned filter in box, still no joy.

All was working fine in disco till we transplanted to 110, Cant seem to think what has gone wrong, or are we missing something.
Was wondering if you the guru's could shed some light on this open to all advise please. Thanks very much..

dl is diff lock...... he actually means the high/low lever on the transfer box.... which also locks the centre diff if you push it to the left...... are both front and rear propshafts on? cos if one isnt youll need to engage diff lock to force the centre diff to transmit drive

No the rear prop is off at the moment, and the DL is in neutral.
 
'Scuse my ignorance but why would he want the Diff lock on? I would have thought Diff Lock off, and in high?

But it reminds me of when I first got my TD5, having only previously driven the red/yellow lever Land Rovers. I'd been checking the state of the floor under the rubber mat, and had, unknowing to me, knocked the H/L Diff lever into neutral.

When I came to drive the Land Rover next, nothing I could do would get the damn' thing to move. After a good half hour of cursing, and blaming the seller for selling me a lemon, I was just about to jack up the vehicle, convinced I had a transfer box/gearbox problem when I decided I should put both boxes into neutral! :doh: The relief I felt when I found the diff lever already in neutral was immense, although it was a few months before I dare tell anyone what I did.

youve got a third differential which splits the drive to front and rear axles , if one prop is off that propflange spins taking all the drive from the other axle.... you have to lock the centre diff so the one propshaft and the empty flange both spin toether.

Because each diff will send power to the side with the least resistance. In this case, the side with no prop.

You're right that usually you would not drive in lock.
 
Ok i have tryed moving DL in all gears Neutral/Hi/Low.etc.....Still the same
Have re-conected rear prop and still no drive.

Tryed taking ATF cooler pipes off Radiator and with engine running i notice
that NO Atf fluid is coming out of pipes (into a bucket) IE not pumping.
Am i missing something to wire/conect to the auto box.
 
You'll need it in either low or high range or else the transfer box will be in neutral. However you'll also need it in centre diff lock - locked if you don't have both props fitted.

This is kinda basic Landy stuff. Maybe paying a garage to take a look would be a more sensible idea?
 
did you put torque convertor on engine or onto gearbox while fitting

Left torque convertor on engine and aligned with box being dead careful
not to damage anything.
After a little jiggle it slotted in, no problems.

I should point out this is not my landy, its my X-brother-in-law's.
And he is pretty ok with the spanners as am i.

He's done loads of work on this 110 he had it with a Nissan Terano engine and box, He had a Disco come his way with loads of rot on her but engine and box ok. Decided to transplant it into his 110.

I on the other hand dont know much about the landy at all, so its down to me to try and get the advise and pass it on to him.
Hope this make sense. Will pass on all what you lads say and let him sort it.

theres your problem its impossible to fit gear box onto torque convertor fastened to engine as you will break pump drive .torque convertor must be fitted to gear box easier if you can stand box on end ,to make sure its fitted correctly measure down from face of bell housing to t/c fastening lug face .then measure rear most face of drive plate to rear face of engine housing, the t/c wants to fit 1-3 mm further in than drive plate sticks out from rear of engine housing,ive never found an auto where this isnt the case,no oil pump drive no drive ,if your lucky and just damaged pump drive lugs i may have one quite easy job to replace
