hi there, firstly- new to the forum, so hi to everyone.. cracking forum by the way..

ive got myself a landrover defender 90 with the 19j engine.. ive just bought a complete discovery on a 1992 plate which i intend to strip to carry out the 200tdi conversion and transfer box.. :)
will the axles also fit? (i am hoping to gain the rear discs etc..) hopefully it will be a simple bolt on conversion? is it the same for the front? steering trackrods etc?
cheers guys steve.

Yes all nuts and bolts for the axles. The Discovery front calipers maybe twin circuit but you can swap your D90 front calipers instead.

You will need to adjust the bulkhead to clear the 200Tdi Turbo and 'clock' the turbo housing a little. Do a search on here, there is more than one thread about it. :)

cheers:)

just picked up the discovery- cracking 40 mile 'test drive' back home, plenty of power + acceleration.. pulled like a train :):):D bit of wobble up through steering wheel between 55-60 goes at 60, so im putting that down to bad wheel balancing.. (though the lack of a steering damper prob dosnt help:confused:)
gonna crawl underneath it today and have a good look at the work involved..

there seems to be two approaches to the 200tdi conversion? either keeping the 90 gbox (removing gbox to add tbox) and fabricating (or spending money) on a downpipe then extending coolant hoses etc..

or moving the engine mounts forward, changing the levers over on the disco box.. (sounds like less hassle??)

obviously i wanna go with the one that requires less work and messing about..
the axles look like a straight forward bolt on upgrade.. disc brakes all round:D

cheers:)

disco engine, defender main box, disco transfer box.

bolt on conversion

cheers, yeh that does sound the easiest way.. looking out for a td5 downpipe.. local factor wants £50.. seems a bit excessive for a pipe im gonna chop up.. any ideas on where to get a cheaper one..
looking at the disco- dosn't seem alot of welding required.. seems a shame to chop up:eek:

The front panhard rod is different on the disco and defenders as is the front steering arm. You need to fit the defender panhard rod to the disco casing.

whats different about the panhard rod? the drag link is different as is the track tube and steering damper mounts, think panhard rods are same.

they are the same as far as i know ! i have a 300tdi disco axil on the front and rear of my hybrid which uses a brand new 110 td5 chassis, just that my steering damper is behind my axil

Panhard rod the same on both axle.

You can swap the steering over at the axle end you know :D

Must of just been my panhard rod then as the defender one was 30mm longer then the disco one and when fitted the axle was off set due to the shorter length.

i always thought they were the same, if not i'm in trouble cos i've sold no end of disco ones to defender owners and vice versa

cheers to every1 for the advise- just swapped the rear and that was pretty straight forward. tho, gotta bleed the brakes again as they feel a bit spongey..
front axle next...

ive got both 300tdi axles from my disco under mine, fan bloody tastic brakes. Made a huge difference.

As did the braided hoses though, well worth the £25.

Next up is some EBC pads though, cos mine are getting thin and do sometimes get quite hot...
