will a disco front axle fit onto a 90 without too much hassle.

yes but if yours is pre 300tdi you will need the disco radius arms or some thick washers to fit your thinner radius arms into disco axle brackets

Which Discovery are the axles from? The older Discovery 1s have the same axles as a Defender but the Disco 2s axle's look quite different. I'm not an expert, so maybe someone else can advise better on this.

Yeah, D1's are effectively identical to 90/Defender axles, D2 are not ... They can be fitted, many fit them for competition as the D2 is arguably a 'better' axle in many ways, but they need fabrication and work to make them fit correctly.
