Afternoon all.

Apologies if this has been asked before, but im after some new boots for my 300TDi.

Im thinking the AT route is the way to go, my driving is mostly on road however, I do venture up over farmland when there's a motorcycle trial on (and being in the landrover, I always get the "Your in a jeep you can park up there on the hillside" remark!)

Any recommendations? I dont even know what size to get to be honest, what will fit etc? I have the standard 16 inch alloys on and want to keep them.

Cheers!

Budget?

Lots of choice, none particularly bad tbh.

I tend to prefer MT's over AT's. As they often ride just as well on road, but are much better off it. Plus they usually look way better too.

I quite like Maxxis tyres, the Bighorn MT-762 and 764 are what I'd personally call a proper go anywhere all "terrain" tyre:

More so than any branded All Terrains.

On a wet road they might not be quite as good, but I can't see them being any real worse tbh. They have sipes, so will work in the wet and ice.

Remoulds are often a good price, and I've not had issues with them. Although for lots of road use, I'd probably opt for a 'new' tyre rather than a remould. The remould is likely to wear less well.

The Dakar is just a copy of a classic MT pattern. It'll be pretty good off road in most conditions and capable on road. But my biggest issue is it lacks sipes. Which will make it less good on wet roads or in ice and snow.

Sipes really are key to a good all-rounder.

Yep, essentially the cuts that you get in the tread blocks. If you look at winter/snow tyres for a car:

They have loads of sipes.

Same applies, if you do go the AT route, make sure it has sipes, as it'll just be a more usable tyre in more conditions. But I still believe a good siped MT will pretty much match an AT on road and always be better off it.

I guess brilliant in the mud might be subjective. I'm sure the sort of mud I'd be thinking of, they wouldn't cut it.
