Hi guys

going away soon in my mates discovery 1 300tdi, due to our disco 2 td5 having coolant probs and not enough time and money to get it done in time, anyway how much engine oil does a disco 300tdi engine hold, i have already ordered a genuine filter kit and want to use some castrol magnatec for the oil change so would like to know how much it holds please.

first one to aswer gets a stick of rock or a cornish pasty :D.

Purchase 7 litres but put the correct amount in as indicated on the engine oil dip stick.

Buy 10ltrs in 2x5, as it's cheaper per litre that way and you'll have some left over for next time.

yeh i want to put some good stuff in like castrol magnatec, halfords £36 for a 4ltr can or motorworld say they don't do it in anything ells but 1ltr bottles at £11 a bottle so thats £66 + £20 for a filter kit from paddocks so that works out at £86 just to change the oil and filter if i went that way, don't think so, anyway i managed to find a motorist shop that sold it for £28 for 4 lts which i still think is to dear but got two cans anyway as i want to get it done, think in future i will buy it off ebay seams to be cheeper on there, and i won't put cheep oil in it.

But next time Halfords own 10W/40 Part Synthetic Oil which is Mobil @ 5L £21.99
Commer I believe has the lowerest priced oils, than there's the supermarket branded oil with their name and it also meets the relevent standards so take your pick.

Comma Oils and Halfords Oils are exactly the same oils in different packaging, produced by Esso. Difference is, Halfords charge you about £10 more for 5 litres.

Lewys

Castrol just paying extra for bottle and advertising, just keep the changes regular instead of paying for extended drain + gets all the crap out more often

+ £20 for a filter kit from paddocks

How much!!!!!!!!!?

I'm amazed that so many of you chaps continue to use crappy Britpart stuff from Paddocks, when OEM filters from the Land Rover main dealers are less than half the price.

Before you get too excited remember that a Paddocks TDi 300 3 filter set is £6.28+vat. If you can buy an original LR 3-filter kit for £3 or £4 please do tell, there are loads of owners who would love to use LR filters at that price

been there done that and i am sick of dealing with numpties in motorist shops, i have even tried land rover in stockport in the past for parts and they don't always have everything in ( but if you need it quick we can get you one from land ranger or paddocks ) and i bet they will charge me the lr price aswell for a none genuine part, nah ordered them on line and they are genuine ones, its just the oil that makes it expensive.

IIRC, oil filter is about £6 inc VAT. Air filter is £5 something, and a fuel filter is £8 something, again inc VAT. I'd hardly call any of those main dealer prices "expensive". Although I'm not 100% sure how that compares to Paddocks?

I may save litterally a couple of quid untill I factor in driving 30 miles there and back to Paddocks, over the 4 miles there and back to my local LR main dealer, but it's going to cost me more in fuel than what I save on parts. Plus the genuine bits fit right, unlike the oil filters from Paddocks that **** out oil at an alarming rate from the crap seals.

Ah, sorry. The way I read the above post was that an oil filter and sump plug washer from paddocks was £20.

Although TBH I do find it hard to believe that an oil filter, sump plug washer, air filter and fuel filter, (I assume that is what you mean by a 3 filter kit?), is only £6.30 + VAT.

I'm happy to be proved wrong though.

Even if the above kit is £20 from Paddocks, it's still more expensive than main dealer prices.
