Hi again Guy & Gals, I have read with intrest the posts on the removal of the EGR valve and am going to get round to this soon, as my inlet manifold is thick with black gunge , but wondered if any of you wise folk could tell me if it is correct that a 2.5 Defender 110 front pipe can be used instead of the front section of the Disco exhaust, as I suspect my CAT is dead anyway. I could just replace the CAT with a piece of pipe but the direct replacement would look better when MOT time arrives.

Also has anyone had any feedback from MOT stations regarding emmissions increases or decreases, as I don't want to fall foul of that.

Thanks in advance, TTFN, Wilbur.:D

Hi mate, ive seen a couple of threads on here about replacing Cat for the defender pipe, by the sounds of it, it can be done search the forum for cat removal or sumat, there was one that specified the part number.

The emissions have to be below 3.00- the mot station i went to reckoned most discos are around 0.17.

Hope this helps

Hi JAC, Thanks for that, I dont want to sound stupid but is the 0.17 figure for a 200 series Disco or a 300 that has been de-cated. I will look the threads up and take a look.

Thanks again, Wilbur.

Mines a 300, and they just said that they should be about 0.17,
so don't really know if they ment generally discos or the 300.
Mine was 6. sumat or other, so double the pass mark thats how we got onto that convo!!!

Are you checking yours before it goes in then?

I've exchanged my cat for the straight through defender exhaust and told by the L/R garage that MOT's won't be an issue. Hope this helps

While you are at it, replace the big first silencer with a straight-through pipe. The engine will go better without a lot of noise. And you should get a credit for your cat, as it is made with platinum and has a good scrap value.

Hi Donboon, You don't happen to know the part number of the said item, as I have contacted Famous Four in Louth today and they do a non cat front pipe for around £50, which seems a bit steep to me, as I have heard figures of £15 banded about. I may get a length of 2 1/4" pipe and cobble it in< it wouldnt look too bad.

Hi JimAttrill, I take it the big silencer strangles the power as well ?? I will take a look at it while I am under there, Cheers.

Hi Stig, I take it I can expect similar emmissions from a de-CATed 300, If my engine is not poorly of course.

I have also been a bit confused by something someone said to me today, they said that if it had a CAT and EGR valve that it may have a Fuel Management system on it too, and if number 4 injector had a wire coming from it then this would be the case, is this true ???

Last thing for now, Has anyone cleaned their inlet plenum manifold out, just wondered if anyone had any tips?.

Soz for all the questions, but If you don't ask. Cheers Chapps, TTFN Wilbur.

Allisport fitted mine when they upgraded the engine. If I recall they charged about the same £50

Hi Wilbur, I think the part numbers for the front pipe is as follows
with cat ESR 3495
without cat ESR 2297

Cheers big beni, I will look into it, The old gal has started to choke up with black sludge in the inlet manifold so I will do the whole de-cat and EGR thing the week after next, just want to get as much stuff together as possible so that nothing stops the job. Thnx for the numbers.

Donboon, I will keep my cat if its in reasonable order, but I suspect it's dead after all these years. Cheers, Wilbur.
