So the Y piece joins the 2 outputs on the back of the new stereo? Pretty sure there are 2 outputs. Then the single cable from the splitter needs to be connected red to core and black to sheath - that simple eh? I have to fix my rear door lock first and put the door card back on before I can re connect the sub.

Thats the one, red core, black outer! How you achieve the rest is upto the individual.

My new head unit has a little feature where it keeps playing for 5 seconds or so when the key is removed from the ignition but of course the power cuts instantly to the amp/subs. The difference those two ickle drivers make is massive.

I have an 'S' model without the sub.:( Does anyone know if all the Discos had the wiring for them and the mounting nuts in the rear door anyhow? (I don't want to take the panel off just to check as MOST of the clips break when you do!!)
Thanks!

Dont know about the wiring but you are right about the panel clips. I took mine off cos the back door catch is broken. only about 3 clips came out. It was abit tatty so I am thinking about getting a sheet of checker plate cut to size instead and pop rivet it on.

Grrrrr just fixed door catch. Put the sub back on and connected up as above and it dont work!

On the back of the stereo are 3 pairs of RCA (phono) sockets - aux in, front audio out, rear audio out. I connected up the rear audio out to a y connected phono lead which in turn I connected to the red and black feed to the rear sub. I selected sub on the menu and cranked it up but silence from the rear.

oh well. I notiiced that one of the rear speakers on the back pillars is no good either. I will get a pair of new speakers and fit them and see how it sounds.

Did the sub work before? If it did I would recheck all your connections. Might be an idea to check you're adjusting the right menu on the new stereo? Do you have to enable the line outs or anything daft like that? Trust me, the subs make a huge difference, especially when you're motoring and all those low freqs are dropping out of the panel gaps. :D

Not sure if they worked before. I will take the sub to work and get one of the electronic boffins to check it out.

I'v installed a separate amp under the front passenger seat to feed a 10in sub in a box fitted in the boot.
The audio and switch power source is taken directly from the tailgate amp, 'T ing' to the black wire from the screened black & white cable is the audio feed to the new amp and I found that the green wire to the door amp is the amp switching wire so this was also extended to the new amp but via a very small 2way switch, so I can switch back to the door amp when I remove the box for space in the boot.

Both the underseat and the door amp have a permanant 12v supply and are switch on by the (standard) head unit so I still have control on the amount of bass going to the amp's as normal ie + 4 or -4. I normaly run on 0 but plus 4 is hair raising... not the type of thing done by an owners of Land Rovers i hope.

woo hoo - just reassembled it after taking the amp apart and finding nothing wrong with it. Plugged it all in and cranked up the stereo and it works! Trouble is I don't know what I did to fix it. Maybe one of the multiplugs wasnt in properly or a bad connection. Anyway sounds great now thanks for all the advice.

Just noticed something funny. The sub only seems to work when listyening to the radio. Really good bass and you can alter how much is going to the sub. But when you listen to a CD or the MP3 on the flash memory then the sub doesnt work . Its a Sony Gigamex 1GB. Cant find the destructions either!

Try here. you'll need the model designation for it I:E CDX400 or what ever yours is. SONY - Car Audio user manual, operation instructions

Still can't get my sub to work.

I installed a new head unit and used the pre-amp out sockets, connecting to phono plug leads going into one, connecting the red wire to the inner and the black wire to the screen - result? - nothing !!

Then I tried just connecting to one phono socket, then went on a binge of connecting almost every wire to every other wire - still nothing.

Anyone got any other suggestions, please?

same trouble with mine, if i can find out what the wires are going into the amp (some sort of wiring diagram i can understand) i will just re-wire it up. but if i cant get to find out think i'll get a new small after market amp off fleebay

Downloaded the manual, went through all the settings (finally worked out how to set the clock!) but still sub only working on radio. Sounds fantastic but it would be nice to have the sub on the MP3s and CD etc. Finally decided to just press lots of buttons to see what would happen. Listening to MP3 track and pressed a button marked T/A and sub kicked in. Now I have body rattling deep bass coming fronm the boot area. Fantastic!

nice one rev glad you finally got sorted - but i thought the T/A was something to do with traffic reports? least it works now!

mine still ain't working, give up trying for now! :D
