Help please, our old 1998 300 disco has just let us down.she was out on thurs day earning her keep (towing a trailer) when she started to overheat, and a rattling from the engine.turned her off straight away (steam every where)and then let her cool down.when the water was checked she took 2 pints. when we went to start her it took a bit, and water/ steam was coming from the header tank. once she had run for a short time starting was not a problem. any help please. thanks.

need a head gasket at least and check rad is hot all over when engine next upto temp ,and regulary remove top bung on thermostat housing and check/fill system to overflowing

check the waterpump impellor is still attached
Thanks for all the info. took cylinder head off yesterday and the gaskets gone across number two and three cylinder+ number three has score marks down the bore, so not looking to good. can the cylinder head be skimmed on these engines??

yes ,but if head has been really hot it will bend again, valves and pistons run really close ,skimming head can put valves to near head surface so you either fit thicker gasket or take as much of valve seats as was skimmed off head

cylinder head has been tested and is ok, it was skimmed. we also bought new head bolts .ten of the bolt set are 125mm ??and should be 140mm:mad:
