I am thinking of buying a Disco 3, TDV6 HSE, and pondering whether to choose the automatic or manual gearbox. Up till now most of my cars have been manual, for I have always feared that an automatic might reduce my control in conditions with ice and snow (or off-road, though I've never tried that).

What is the situation with the modern automatic gearbox on the Disco 3? Could it be that it is actually better in difficult conditions than my amateur driving with a manual gearbox? Can I select a gear and stay in it with the Disco 3 automatic gearbox?

Does the gearbox choice make any difference when it comes to selling the car?

I would love to hear any comments or experience here.
Thanks.

From my experience of modern automatics with TC systems as good as landrovers I have found that you actually get better control on surfaces such as ice etc.

If you think about driving in snow, every time you change gear you are taking torque off the drive wheels then putting it back on. Where as with an automatic the drive torque is constant.

I haven't owned a modern Landrover Automatic but i could not fault my Audi A6 Allroad for traction. Absolutly fantastic car! I have driven a new disco auto, but unfortunatly the dealer wouldnt let me greenlane it!!

Up to you, but never underestimate automatics!

I own TDV6 S

You can manually select the gear you want in sport mode or use the auto box.

Never had a manual Disco before.
