I had seen the new price and decided used would work well for me if needed. If I can patch things up I will leave well alone until it fails. I read the convoluted process to program the ECM. Who would have thought....

I have just had a PM from the original poster and his symptoms were identical. If all is well I will certainly upload a picture of the setup and a schematic of the relay wiring.

I am heading to bed ready to deal with a 'snow' day drive to work at -13. Just seen they are calling for -36 next Tuesday........now that is when the poor Landy's get unhappy with no block heater! Have a good one!

I lived in New York for a few years and by Christ that was cold enough , went there to set up a european heating department within an existing company , as indeed you’ll know the system are completely different

Coldest place I went was Vermont where a mate lived and he said Canada in the winter makes Vermont like a summer holiday , lol

can’t see it hurting u leaving that relay like that , maybe an in-line fuse to add that little bit of extra protection

I had to step away for a couple of days to deal with other stuff and save my sanity. I am now triggering an exhaust valve general fault. I will persevere this weekend even though it is sorely testing my plan for 'dry' January lol.

That must have been quite the experience having the opportunity to live in New York for a few years. We have only made it there once, but plan to return. Here on the prairies the cold is one thing and then add wind chill.........it can be a wee bit nippy! The LR4 creaked and groaned this morning, but did start. I have added a battery blanket tonight as the garage is full and it is going to drop to -28c and get worse from there.

I am giving serious thought to doing a coil spring conversion using the Atlantic British (US) kit with HD 2" lift and Old Man Emu springs. With having to order stuff from outside Canada and the likelihood that when I have sorted this out I will still have a number of other EAS timebombs it is tempting. The LR3 is a daily driver and will increasingly be doing more off-road and backcountry. Biting the bullet now seems quite appealing, not least because we are hurting just now with one vehicle and record-breaking cold days here in Edmonton. We are forecast for -36c without the windchill factor. I tried to search for posts to explore the pro's and con's, but the search function is not working for me. Any thoughts on this?

I am still on the fence. I had a thought this evening, clutching at straws maybe, but at this point, anything is worth exploring. When I removed the exhaust valve on the new hitachi style compressor, the chamber was blackened. I attempted to remove the valve on the old compressor and ended up drilling through, but the chamber was clean metal. Earlier this evening watching a YouTube replacement of a failed exhaust valve and it too appeared to have a blackened chamber. If the valve is not doing what is intended to do, would this cause some of the symptoms I have seen? It may also account for why it has got progressively worse. Do you know if the chamber should be clean if all is well with the valve?

Can sometimes be damp , also like a worn tap washer where the black comes off as it wears

but More than likely because it hasn’t sealed 100% air has been allowed to pass causing the blacking , I would be very tempted to fit a new exhaust valve considering it’s already had so much use

Don’t know how much help that is considering the amount of hassle you’ve had
 
Finally back on the road with the Atlantic British OME 2" lift heavy-duty coil spring conversion. With the difficulty getting parts I decided this was the best move. I will stick with EAS on the LR4 and start building the LR3 for some of the overland adventures I have planned. Thanks for the assistance as I worked through this Gary, greatly appreciated.
