Help!! Evening all, new on here, need some help. My discovery 3 cut out while cruising at 50mph. I just lost all power but no warning lights at all. Still have full electrics and engine turns over. The low pressure fuel pump still wines when you turn the key and the belt is still on the back of the high pressure fuel pump. I was going down the crank sensor route but when I turn the engine over, the taco moves. It bounces up and down a little so I’m not sure if that will be the issue. Other than that I’m lost as to what to try next?

So if that’s been all checked would get the codes read and battery checked

what year and mileage is the disco please, when was the fuel filter last changed and have u checked the LPFP pressure

hope that helps

Engine seems to turn fine. No bangs or flashing warning lights or anything. Battery light just came on and engine was dead

Need to check deeper than that for a correct diagnosis.
Do not spend a penny on the old girl until you have confirmed oil pump/cam belt are sound.

Don't see how a bust timing belt wouldn't lead to interference between the pistons and the valves.
Or is this engine not an interference engine?

Definitely an interference engine, but if timing belt fails to turn the cams, the valves or rockers fail when the piston strikes them.

Exactly, and wouldn't that make a bang, or a series of bangs?
Pardon my ignorance and all that.:(

Nope, not really compared to the sound of the rest of the engine.
Not all 24 valves/rockers will be damaged, maybe 8 to 12, spread across both heads.
The valves and rockers on these PSA engines are particularly soft, and very easy for the pistons to mangle quite effectively. ;)

If the crank has failed at the front where they can go then only two cylinders jave to bend their valves and then it will be silent when you try and start it, ie it will be a v twin!

Of course ir could just be HPFP belt failure or anything else for that matter.
