Hi
Hope everyone is keeping well.
Wonder if anyone can help?
Driving home earlier, everything fine and then all of a sudden disco started making a really loud knocking noise. Couldn't really make out where it was coming from. Stopped the car. Restarted, still there. You can feel it through the seats, feel like they are vibrating. I could feel it through the clutch as well but I could still get her into gear, and all the gears. It knocks more as the engine revs go up. There are no warning lights, engine temp all ok. Haven't got a clue. The knocking is really loud!
Does anybody have an idea as to what it could be?
Thanks

Dont run it or drive it anymore until you have had it looked at.
Any fluid leaks underneath?
How long since last serviced?

Limped home as I was only 1/2 mile from home. Couldn't see any leaks. Its due its service now

Sad to say it is most likely serious, crank failure is not unknown, land rover like many car makers have way to long service intervals.
Get it checked but dont get to far in fincancially that you cant get out, ie get a decent mech with a stethoscope and see what he thinks.
If you have the tools/space jag 2.7 engine with the disco ancillaries fits.

Youtube, search discovery 3 engine knocking.

I was told a few decades ago, oil cheap engines expensive.
I do all my oil changes on all the cars at 5k regardless of what the maker says, 30 odd yrs later and I have never had an engine blow yet!

Still crank related, but I suspect it’s spun the bearings if it’s rattling and banging but running...

Not good news and either a replacement engine or significant rebuild (if you can even get the parts as cranks aren’t generally available)
