I've got my 200tdi that I'm using for the commute (now I've acquired some reasonably priced fuel) but I want to take it for a bit of green laning on the weekends cos the wife won't let me mod the Chelsea tractor 300tdi.
What is the minimum I need to get myself off road. I call it green laning but I want a bit of a challenge without getting stuck. It will be mainly used on Salisbury Plain.

stuff all terrians get some mud terrians , get a cheap set of 2inch suspension spacers if you are on a budget , diff gaurds and your away

Be careful if your going cheap. You get what you pay for and may end up causing other problems from cheap mods

The problem is having to change to extended shocks (otherwise it is possible to break the standard shock) which will also require longer brake lines and possibly ABS extensions. Then you'll have a poor quality ride until you swap to new springs and remove the spacers. Might aswel just fork out for a proper 2" kit

ive had standard shocks and brake lines for a year now and they have had alot of use off road , im now lifting my body 2 inches im still not going to replace the brake lines though , i will just weld on some brackets and lower them , a full suspension kit is with out a doubt the better option though

Like the welding on of the brackets idea! had that idea myself and people said it wouldnt work, Glad to see there is someone like minded!

did you bother with bigger tyres? otherwise you are still going to be limited by axle clearance.

Best mod for green laning imo is a good set of tyres, you will find out what else you need as you go

Some diff guards and new tyres it is then (with a tow strop in the boot just incase).
Will decide if I need a lift kit once I get started.
Cheers for all the suggestions.

If yu are going green laning you don't need all that ****. I go laning in a standard Disco with no mods except breather extensions, a set of decent tyres and a strop.

Oh - and at least 2 other peeps!

Aren't a decent set of tyres like £400+ though? I struggle to budget one at £100+ :D

not standard size, think nathan got a set for around 150-200 last time. you dont have to have bfg/general tyres just tyres with a decent tread pattern.

cheaper tyres (remoulds) will probably wear faster but then you can get 2-3 sets for the price of the more expensive brands and if/when you split a tyre out playing it doesnt hurt your wallet as much replacing it ;)
