All,

it has been around 6-7 years since this engine has been started. Started on a project where I had to remove and replace the bulkhead (poor purchase decisions, but learning a lot). I have a new wiring harness and such that I will need to install at this point however, I am already looking at getting to starting this beast up again. What procedures should I undertake in first start? I am thinking of going ahead and replacing the timing belt as well since I have no idea of how much time is on the current one. Of course I’m going to drain and refill all fluids throughout the defender 90 prior to this as well. Any advice on engine specific prep would be greatly appreciated. This is a discovery 200tdi 12L series engine.

If you are going to change the timing belt, you may as well fit a new water pump, timing case and crank seals too. Often the bolts through the timing case can be quite corroded, so be prepared to replace one or two, possibly helicoil.

I remember fitting the 200 to my series years ago, stuck it in there thinking got to bleed it up etc, turned key and she started straight away.
I did egzackly the same when i did my first series disco 200tdi conversion but left the fuel solenoid wire off to get oil round then connected the wire and it fired up roughly 1/4 turn well impressed, even the one i'm in now starts on 1/4 of a turn and it always amazes me why new cars of today take longer to start

Looking for the solenoid wire to disconnect, simultaneously trying to identify some wires so that it’s all connected up and ready. Specifically the brown wire with washer end, and the wire bundle near my hand (assuming it might be for air conditioner (which this landy doesn’t have). Thanks for the help on this fellas!

I’ve got a rats nest in the dash as well, I need to make sure I have gotten all buttoned up. Right now it’s a little daunting. Perhaps sim help in this realm is needed as well, but working on it daily.
