Got the chance to purchase a recon D2 Transfer box with diff lock from a friend at very good mates rates.

just thinking though am I going to run into any kind of issues with the Speedo cable here? From what I understand the Disco is electrical and my Defender is cable or does the port/connector still exist on the D2 transfer box?

If you live in hilly country you'll hate the D2 box. They can barely hold 30mph without screaming, on a decent hill.

I live in East Yorkshire so really dead flat its an LT230 D2 transfer box the whole point is to quieten it down and improve MPG

The Defender transfer box revs incredibly high and its a bit loud, but with it being my daily this is meant to help improve engine revs quite a bit.

Plus £200 for a reconditioned transfer box is a bargain too

Fair one. I've noticed some people don't realise they're terrible in Wales, Scotland, etc until they've fitted them, usually because people from flat country highly recommend them.
And yeah, great deal that.

So hopefully if it fits speedo works etc am definitely having it for my 300 Tdi 90

I took my 1.2:1 Disco box out and fitted a 1.4:1 with the V8 5th gear.
The D2 box was awful, made my 300tdi as flat as a pancake in the get up and go department.
My mpg was lower too as I was always pressing down with the right foot, any hill, off road and/or towing was sluggish at best.

My advice is sell it on and get a rebuilt one from Winchester Gears.

I am going to come out with the opposite view to the above. I have a 1.2 fitted to mine and it is great. However I will caveat that with a couple of things. I live in the midlands, not the Welsh or Scottish mountains, I have an early LT77 from a TD fitted which I believe has different gearing to the later tdi versions but am no expert, and most of my 25k miles a year is done sat on a motorway with just me in the vehicle.
For my primary use the 1.2 made a big difference. It increased the speed by 8mph for the same revs, and increased my fuel economy. It still will drive through the mountains, and tow a fully laden trailer if needed to, but I agree would not be suitable if I was doing this every day.
