Hi Tony, ignore the ****ers for a second - you have a '97 TDi 300 auto which means it is an EDC (Electronic Diesel Control) model. This means it has a 'fly by wire ' throttle pedal rather than a std cable-operated pedal.
The chances are that the tracks on the throttle pedal potentiometer have worn and are giving duff info to the engine ECU.
The throttle pot. will need replacing.

Thats a bit harsh,not everyone was rude.The CEL will also behave this way if the timing solenoid cant match the point of injection to where it wants - but its all just conjecture.Without a quick session on Testbook its pointless guessing,Bosch EDC fault codes are accurate in general and usually easy to match up with info from live data displays.
