hi picked up my first disco yesterday all was fine till last night went to go for a run (after all the rain we had ) and the brake pad/hand brake warning light comes on and off at will , it was only mot'd on wed so i would have thought the pads would be ok but i cant seem to find anything on wear sensors hope someone out there can help cheers chris

sounds fascetious, but what colour is the warning light ?
generally:
yellow/amber would be from the brake pad wear indicators, and is triggered by a metal wire embedded in the pad friction material grounding on the brake disk when the friction material is worn down enough. Can also be caused by a wire chafing and then grounding down part way along its length. Easy to check by disconnecting the wear indicator wire at the brake pad end, will be on a plug and socket arrangement to allow you to change the pads.

If the light was red, it could be handbrake on warning light (if it's on when handbrakes off, check operation of switch). Other warning on same light is for brake fluid level, driven by a little plunger on top of the brake fluid cylinder, so check brake fluid level.

hi it is the red light that comes on with the hand brake as it is auto i dont really use the hand brake the light works as should when the hand brake is applied and released i have checked the brake fluid level all ok but the light is still flickering every now and then sometimes when the brake is released but more often when driving normally as i dont have a hand book for it i assumed the whole braking warning light circuit would be on the one light many thanks chris
 
According to the wiring diagram there are two separate lights, one for the fluid level and one for the handbrake, but the book lies ....

I have got the same fault and after trying most things ,it is the float in the brake fluid container under the bonnet.There are only two things that cause the warning lamp to work, one being the handbrake switch and the other the float in the brake fluid container, there are no sensors in the brake pads because when the pads are warn out the fluid in the reservoir goes down and the float then puts the light on.But if you look at the float you will see that there is brake fluid inside which should be empty.So hope that helped.

Top class thanks to all scotty you were spot on removed the brake filler and the float was full of fluid and there was a slightly corroded terminal cleaned up drained float and sealed no more warning light cheers
