100% no the bellhousing is different and the pinion shaft if different whats wrong with old one

What about something as simple as the bias plate broken and the little piece of metal blocking the gates?
Is the gear lever coming to rest between 3rd and 4th as normal or between 1st and 2nd?
If it's the 2nd option it could be just the bias plate. If so the part is a fiver and an hours labour.

Before you go rushing in with the time and expense of another gearbox, get the problem diagnosed succesfully.
There are known issues with TD5/R380 especially when the 'box gets warm. It is a very simple and cheap fix.
