First post for I'll start with saying "Hi" to everyone. Looks like a great forum.
Very quick question for all you experts out there if I may.
I recently bought a 2003 Disco 2 (5 seater) with standard spring suspension (as opposed to the air bag set up) and the Active Cornering Enhancement system.
So far so good in all aspects other than the suspension - well I think it's the suspension. I've taken it off road a couple of times and find that if I go through even relatively shallow potholes / ruts / dry puddles (say 6 to 8" deep or so) at anything over say 10 mph it sounds like the whole car has grounded out on a massive rock or something. It's like a really loud, thump / crash, almost as if the suspension has bottomed out against the stops.
I'm no expert at this yet, but I did have a 2006 Defender 90 a few years ago and this never happened, even when driven hard over much tougher terrain.
My guess is that the shocks and / or springs are shot but before ordering up any replacements I thought I would run it by you guys first to see if I am on the right track.
Also, if it is the shocks / springs what would you recommend replacing the standard kit with? I won't be towing anything but do enjoy the odd hoon down a forestry track when opportunity presents itself, as well as trying my hand at a few more technical and steep tracks.
Lastly, is it worth lifting the suspension? I have seen a few 2" lift kits that seem to be reasonable value. At the moment I'd say I have about 4" inches between the wheel and the bodywork (it's sitting on 255 / 65 / R16's)
