How many TD5s are NOT remapped?

0-60 9 seconds timed, TD5 auto

Dynachip
Your reference for a real 9 sec timing.

As for which ones aren't mapped. I suspect most of them. Modding really isn't mainstream and common the UK. And most D2's are not owned by people likely to mod them.

For the record a stock TD5 auto is 15.8sec to 60mph. Unless you can show some published proof of 9 sec, then mapped or not I really struggle to believe it.

unsure if mine is remapped I purchased it 2nd hand
I have left D2 v8s behind I also have pulled away from many other V8s and v6 engines this was well before I installed my LPG system

I have also hamered the hell out of my Td5 engine some times consistently well more than 3 hours none stop off road tyres at 8 psi sand dunes ..
while many v8s need to park up open bonnet to cool off from a 20 minute play time on the same sand dunes

the only time my engine lost performance after a play like this was due to fuel tank was getting to hot resulting in the td5 to loose power after 3 hours of play time
turned out to be a thermostat failure in the fuel cooler besides that I give my stock td5 a hard time without any issues

since owning my d2 I have had 2 people run into the back of me no damage whats so ever very strong car
I have also jumped this car twice enough force on landing it pulled out both of my 15 inch subwoofers out of the box no damage to the car

I never got a chance to push my d1 200 to its limits I'm guessing this is also a strong car
I understand you are likely passionate and proud of your own vehicle. But I suspect rather too much embellishment is being added to your story. Either that or the facts simply are not accurate.

And don't get me wrong, I'm as big a diesel head as anyone else here. But facts are facts. The V8's make more power. And can be easily tuned too.

If you are "pulling away" from a V8 with just a mapped Td5. Then the V8 isn't trying or there is far more going on.

Well a p38a which weighs the same with similar gearing and aero. The 4.6 V8 with a real 214bhp+ is something like 9.6 sec 0-60mph.

A TD5 with a remap is what a realistic 160bhp, if rated to the same standard as a factory engine. I know mappers all like to claim 170,180 and 190hp. But I've never seen any figures which aren't fudged or suspect. Such as claiming ludicrous drivetrain losses and rolling road figures only that don't conform to SAE Net or DIN standards.

So faster with 50-60hp less. I think not.

very accurate
also wjhen I purchased my TD5 I went of forums to common issues comparing the v8 as I was also looking into getting a v8
I got told that soon as you put weight on the v8s back they are gutless

don't get me wrong I understand the v8 produces more power ..but I haven't seen a v8 yet in a d1 d1 or a d2 impress me yet

beside they also like to over heat when worked hard for long periods

I have driven a D1 V8 over a few days and it felt less powerful than my TD5.

I used the banana method for timing done a lot so moderately accurate compared with stop watches and I am within half second..

I have driven plenty of vehicles of under 10 seconds 0-60 and excluding bikes, off the line the TD5 is the quickest to 20, an old Chrysler hatch to 40 (very tall first) and, a tuned V6 Vauxhall to 60 (4 speed auto tall first).

The D2 is very low geared really and only starts to slow on acceleration around 55 to 60. Over a longer distance not quick, but it is off the line.

Mine had a milder remap on it when bought which was already substantially quicler than stock.

I do actually plan to get my 110 on a rolling road soon enough, would be nice to see how much power it is actually producing.

What D1, age/condition?
Early 3.5's are only 165hp and lazy. Earlier auto boxes are also more reluctant to downshift, so might not be in the right gear for optimum acceleration. And worn V8's will not be making the power they should. Worn lifters and/or cam are pretty common.

Sorry, don't know what a banana method is. And unless you are using GPS to actual speed, chances are any home efforts will be quite inaccurate.

D2 is not low geared at all and in auto format is taller geared than a mannual, as it uses the same transfer box and diff gears, but only has 4 ratios in the gearbox.

And like I said, the official figure is 15.8 seconds. +30-35hp is not going to knock over 7 seconds off this time.

Don't know if you watch this YT channel. But this is the 2nd time they have done a Td5 vs V8 shoot off, it's the 2nd time because people kept saying the Td5 should have won. But even in the rematch it didn't.

Not exactly scientific, but it is point of reference.

BTW - I have a V8 p38 and my cousin has a D2 Td5 auto. My uncle also has 2 Td5 D2's, both manual and a friend has a nicely tuned Td5 Defender. Seat of the pants the V8 p38 is massively faster. And having done some actual performance testing it was substantially quicker than my Jaguar X-Type 2.0d manual running a Ron box.

unsure if my td5 is remapped as I purchased 2nd hand ..mine seems just to snap through the gears and pulls like a train

have also added some extra spray only use this on curtain occasions ..I also have the same system installed on a 2liter TD ford focus Manuel that is a rocket
I have found though with the TD5 if you spin to many wheels at once this does tend to slow the car down due to the traction control system putting the brakes on
if you disconnect traction control it appears to be even quicker off the mark (dry road)
