My Td5 disco has lost its guts. There is no pulling power at all. It's auto an from a standing start you have to push the pedal right to the floor. She slowly moves off an until the turbo comes in there is nothing. I though it might have been the air glow metre so i changed it. It made no difference. I took the fuel pump out of the tank and cleaned the filter. I also cleaned the wee filter on the side of the head. Anyone and ideas where i go either this now.......
 
find somebody near you with a tester to check fault codes ... if no fault codes u can go further with the fueling investigation ...if u dont know register here The D2 Boys Club. - Index page , there is a nanocom/hawkeye locator with maps, maybe u find a helpfull chap not far from you ...it's better than pay a dealer
 
Yeah, I checked for fault codes and it came up with nothing. Nothing registered or logged. Im nearly at my wits end with it......

What I would be doing is checking with a LR specific diagnostic tool such as Hawkeye or Nano Evo. I would want to check "Live Data" with the engine running, not just fault codes.

With either of these machines you can hook it up and watch the data as someone else drives.
 
Was on my way home this afternoon and the Landy stopped altogether. Still no lights on the dash at all. Tried to start it a few times but with no luck. Then it suddenly dawned on me that i couldn't hear the fuel pump priming when i turned the ignition on. I tried this about a dozen times but nothing. The Landy was recovered an brought home. When it was unloaded off the lorry i turned the ignition on to get it pushed out of the way an hey presto, the pump started. I went through the priming sequence and it started. So i was wondering if the fuel pump has been the problem all along

The fuel pump is the thing that provides the high pressure necessary to run these engines, if it is failing or has gone altogether, they just don't run.

Can't remember, did you change the fuel filter? Also, what is this "wee filter on the side of the head", can't quite picture that?

Have you cleaned the MAP sensor on the inlet manifold?

Hi Dave, the "wee filter" I was talking about is inside the head. It sits in behind the fuel pressure regulator assembly. If you remove the pressure regulator there is a rubber washer. The filter is behind this. I haven't cleaned the MAP sensor, can you tell me where this is situated or what it looks like please. Thanks for the reply...

To find the MAP you need to remove the engine cover (big black thing) and you'll find the MAP (little black sensor) on the inlet manifold just after the EGR valve. Held in with 2 x 8 or 10mm bolts. Clean with Brake and Clutch cleaner,use plenty of it to get rid of the tar-like crud, then allow to dry and re-install.

Well thats the map sensor cleaned. It was a bit gunky but not really bad. Its made no difference at all. . :scratching_chin:

Well it's just a process of elimination.


So, in that case you probably need to go back to the fuel pump in the tank, if you still can't hear it working?
 
I think Im going to have to go for a pump. I think it may not be pumping full pressure causing fuel starvation. I just can't understand why it pulls so well on boost but won't pull away well. Or why it won't pull when the Auto box goes into lockup.
 
Before you go for a pump, try changing the fuel pump relay.
I had a similar issue and it turned out to be the relay.
Swap number 2 with 3 or 4 with 2.

Well now..... Still no joy. Swapped the relays this morning, replaced the fuel filter this afternoon and then sprayed all the hoses with brake cleaner to check for air leaks. Nothing seems to be working......... :-(
