Ive had a bit of a search around on here but cant find exactly what Im looking for. Ive got a TD5 metropolis, if I go with genuine Landrover disks and pads front and rear, the parts will be in the region of £330.

The front disks and pads make up about £200 of this. Who is the original parts manufacturer for Landrover?

Is there any comparissons of brake parts any where genuine vs aftermarket anywhre?

I've read a few posts with people saying that they dont like Mintex pads and disks, but they neer actually quantify why.

Im in two minds as to whether I keep all of the original recipets going on the on car or buy aftermarket. Any advice much appreciated

I replaced both the front and rear discs and pads for the MOT this year.

After much thought I went with Britpart discs (wouldn't touch any of there usual parts) but decided that their discs for the money looked okay.

Got both front and rear discs with Mintex pads for less than £100 delivered.

I mostly only do road miles towing a large heavy boat and so far find them to be fine.

i fitted front and rear set of these 2 years ago, no problem at all, done 1000's of miles and discs are good as new, landrover genuine parts are dear!!, wouldn't be so bad but on a car at this sort of age now, it doesnt matter, beside some after market parts are better than the orginals ebay item no 220817518774

Pattern discs on old d2 warped pretty damned quick.
Pattern for my old merc were wrong size!
Pattern pads for wifes merc squealed like a sick pig, genuine ones fixed it once and for all 70 quid! versus 20 for the pattern
Basically it all comes down to money like most things in life
Have you tried Mintex?
My 90 has mintex in cheap as chips and seem fine with the odd squeal, but thats because they are covered in mud.

Pattern will be fine, all makes produce some quality gear if you don't fancy the pure cheapness of Britpart (I am completely happy with Britpart discs and pads btw)

Cheers

define "better"?

"An excellent solution for 4x4 use, this heavy duty Greenstuff formulation has slightly lower friction than its 2000 series counterpart (average friction coefficient 0.45mm) but has the benefit of longer life and better resistance to offroad conditions of dust and sand etc. It has an extremely low rotor wear factor and medium-to-good lifetime."

Well, you have them fitted; I see what they are saying above but in comparison to a set of Lockheeds would you say they feel they pull up better?

Not sure how they would be better for offroad conditions.. when the are marketed for other vehicles as fast road use:confused:

I've had two sets of the Paddock kit. A fred-bloggs disk, but mintex pads. They were absolutely fine!

Front: BRAKEKIT5
Rear: BRAKEKIT6

I also ordered a couple of the retaining screws, because you usually knacker the heed of at least 1 screw when changing the disk. (i know some people say you don't need these screws, but I prefer to keep them in)

Orioginals did 90,000 miles, then I put the Paddock ones on and they also did a similar milage.

Just changed them again recently (Paddock kit again), but now I have sold the car.

Wow thats some mileage!.. Which is reassuring. I was getting tempted to get rid of the TD5 and get a Disco3.. But Ive done about 5k an annum in it since we've had it as its our dog mobile! Which its perfect for.

Out of interest have you bought another discovery?

Nope - moved to a Defender 110. A new Utility Station Wagon.

I didn't like the D3/D4, a bit too "bling" for me. A few design issues (like the rear tailgate, and spare-under-boot-floor) didn't work for me, and just put me off.

the 110 Defender has a better load capacity (than D2), and the 6th gear makes it good on motorways & A roads. Better seats (some Exmoor Trim ones maybe) and cruise control and it will be ther perfect replacement for the D2.

Have fitted a few extras already to make it more like the D2 - noisekiller sound proofing, and a few other things) and I am really pleased with it now.

I really liked the Disco TD5, if I could have bought a new one with a taller top gear (or 6 speed), and the usual D2 issues (3 amigos, leaking sun roof etc) resolved, it would make it perfect for me, but the D3/D4 has never appealed.

no point fitting genuine on a land rover unless youre considering putting it on track. i cant see any other way of getting them hot enough to notice any benefit in quality ie. warp/fade resistance.

even then, oem pads will be cold compound, but the discs i expect will be better quality.

my advice fit cheapest discs you can find and some allmakes/mintex/ate/lucas etc middle value pads.

cheers
