Philip's D2 ES failed its MOT recently, the footwell was rather more 'ventilated' than the MOT guy liked, the windscreen had a mark over on the passenger side, but was within the wiper's swept area, and there was a hole in the chassis at the back.

The footwell was a fairly large area with multiple holes, so he cut the lot out and made up a shaped patch.

The chassis needed a patch in 2mm steel which we keep in the workshop.

The wing had collected quite a bit of mud inside!

is that "wipers swept area" right for a fail?

one of ours has one of those stone damage marks within the swept area but not right in the drivers straight ahead view, it was on the car when I got it in '03 and it has passed mots every year (failed first time on some things but not the screen). was mentioned one year as an advisory by one very picky and thorough chap who incidentally was just about the only one to twig the speedo was in km not miles

nice bit of welding btw

  • The windscreen is chipped or cracked. The maximum damage size is 10mm in the drivers’ line of vision (a vertical strip 290mm wide centred on the steering wheel), 40mm elsewhere in the rest of the area swept by the wiper blades.
