it will fit ok , the only thing you need to look out for with the later splined diffs is the 4 studs 2 at 3 oclock and 2 at 9 oclock, some use 4 shorter studs some dont, a too long a stud wont effect fitting too short would need the 4 studs changing

Are you SURE it's the diff ?

What's the oil like ? The service for diffs should be every 30,000 miles ...

Great thanks for info, yes diff is only thing left, just paid 3000 at garage for various repairs and clunk got worse on take up and hard lock also clunks over bumps in rd now too, thanks again x

Was the garage one that 'knows' Landies ? or just a garage for cars ?

It’s been clunking since I bought it over a yr ago kept taking it in and they were replacing bushes and bars, front swivels etc but clunk remains to my knowledge nothing has been done to diff oil, although it will b checked every 30,000 miles from now on as is going to b a costly repair that could have been avoided, thanks so much for advice it’s really helpful x

Does it clunk while driving along or is it just on pull away, chabging gear and turning?

It does it pulling away stopping turning full right lock bumps in rd, I have just had the front swivels done at garage as they were leaking wouldn’t they notice then if the cv joint had gone? Also while it was there it was mot’d at another Landrover garage wouldn’t it have failed on cv joint? Sorry to ask so many questions just worried the diff we just bought won’t fix the problem thanks for all reply’s they are a great help

have you had roll bar bushes and drop links checked

Lift the front wheel up and spin the wheel backwards and forwards. Then drop that one and lift the back wheel up and do the same. You want to get the diff turning to find out if that's the clunking. Whilst you do this, put the transfer box in neutral and then put it back into high box and test again. Don't turn the wheels left or right, keep them straight. This will tell you if it's the diff and not the CV joint.

As for the diff, I hope you bought a second hand one haha. If it's not the diff, you'll have no problems getting rid of it, people break them all the time off-road.

Great will check that tomorrow after work, yes diff was 2nd hand, I never go off rd, just sometimes park in fields for horse shows, when I took it to garage I asked them to check everything over as wanted everything mended that was broken, it’s had some bars and other bits done will find the bills and check what they have mended, regularly said about the clunk on full lock but they kept saying it was other things, luckily now my other half is mending it so saving on labour charges

Ok jacked up moving wheel makes horrible clunking noise, diff oil is really thick black, on the bung there was a spring stuck to it and some rubber bits, currently have it over pit, bought a new cv as well just encase will let you know how it goes
