I have removed the radio/tape and CD control wireless from my Disco 2 in anticipation of fitting my new Radio/CD player. Removal was pretty straightforward after gleaning the required info from the site, thanks to those who posted the info.
I hoped my new radio would fit in the existing metal mounting cage, long shot I know. It does fit but has a different locking system to my new bit of kit, and I don't want to spend every drive pushing the darn thing back in every time it moves forward.
I have spied inside with a torch but can see nothing that would release it so I could remove it and fit the new replacement.
Been on the net which usually solves many problems, but not this one.
So Landy Guys/Girls, has any one removed the stock mounting cage and replaced it with aftermarket kit. Any info will be very welcome for such a small problem I know.

Cages are usually universal in their fixing, with the metal tags bent inwards to to suit the vehicle and retain the cage. I don’t think the D2 will be any different.
Anyway the cages are made of soft metal and so can easily be bent with a screwdriver away from the sides of the dash opening and then pulled out.
 
Thanks for the info. I had a little probe with a screwdriver and they are very soft material indeed. If I don't have any luck any other way, looks like the screwdriver will be brought into action.

Hi, I recently removed the stock radio cassette from my 02 td5 and replaced it with a pioneer mp3 dab unit. Can't remember exactly the removal method but I think it was like discool said. I know a kept both the old cage and unit in case it needs to be replaced ever.
However I do know that to get the new stereo to push back far enough to lock into its cage was an absolute t#@t. I had to try to dress and readjust all the wiring harnesses loads of times before it would fully lock in place. There's not much room in behind. I almost gave up it was that much of a pain.
But eventually it locked in after a lot of pushing.
New stereo only cost £100 and has Bluetooth hands free for phone so much safer to use. Stick on dab antenna mounted in lower left windscreen with old tax disc holder covering it from view.

I have the new Radio/CD player installed now, and it sounds fine. But there is a glitch somewhere. Radio on before starting the engine, engine starts and radio stops playing but all it's dials are still illuminated, bugger. Radio on (sounds good) and engine running, pull up and turn ignition off, turn ignition on to start, engine starts but radio doesn't, even though it's dials illuminate. I think a visit to a good auto electrician is required to bottom the problem.

Have a laugh on me. Removed the new radio and plugged the old stock unit back in, but it was dead as a Dodo, no dials lit, no sound whatever, a dead radio. After much plugging in and removing, much more plugging in then removing, arm into rear of radio compartment feeling for loose wires, or some kind of assistance from God I chucked a wobbly and went in for a cuppa to sooth my anger. Sat at kitchen table and had a well deserved sup of coffee, when I spied a little 10amp fuse lurking in the shadow of the fruit bowl. Yup, I had previously removed it from the unit to make sure it was ok. but not put it back in. Doh.
