hi

this is my first post im in the middle to doing a discovery 2 face lift conversion to my 1994 300tdi but has anyone ever heard of doing a conversion to the rear lights i see the panel that my lights sit in looks like it can be taken off as i can see some bolts and screws holding it on and the disco 2 rear lights look the same shape panel will they fit has any one done it before
 
The rear corner section is spot welded to the rest of the quarter panel, but the complete quarter panal is bolt on, you can't fit the whole thing as a d2 is longer but you could with a bit of work drill the spot welds out and swop the corners over not that i could say if everything lines up.

Take the carpet out of the boot & the bit that covers the rear wheel arch's. Then remove the sill covers and I'm sure you'll find something to spend your time and money on ;)

Abso****inglutely but perhaps he hasn't got that kind of cash lol:D
 
Sure there was a 300TDi in one of the mags with TD5 front an drear conversion, i'm sure I read that the rear panels are the same size etc just the mountings are different.

You'll need to change the rear pillar, the bumper and the lights. It won't be a cheap job to do.

Your not wrong :) LRO did a bit on a nice off roader with all the bits and bobs, a D1 with D2 facelift front and rear, anything is poss if u have the workshop and skills and cash....
 
Ha i dont fancy welding any more landrovers this year well untill a buy the mrs a defender and what mag was that conversion in ?

"At the rear, Discovery 2 light units have been fitted by using D2 rear corner panels. These were removed from scrapyard panels and fitted to the original body sides, a complex task that involved drilling out spotwelds and re-drilling things to get a factory standard appearance."
 
I definitely say go for it.

Doing stuff like this is nice to see - there's too many samey cars about.

Tbh mine is highly modified but it's still quite samey. Its got tried an tested parts fitted that make it do it's job, but not really much in the way of uniqueity.

Fit a D2 rear end and be happy!
 
The D2 rear bumper is streets ahead of the D1 version imo, anyone know how much is involved in fitting one of those?
 
I'd love to fit a D2 rear door to mine as I prefer the boot plinth above the numberplate, not sure on the D2 rear lamps though....would love a HD rear bumper like Mr Noiseys aswell!

On the front I will eventually fit pre-facelift TD5 lights (direct replacement ones) with a HID kit to bring it up to date.

Wonder if the D2 alpine windows fit with the flush rubbers? :D

Can you get D2 xenon lights?
 
Possibly but they must be the facelift ones i'd guess. The prefacelift 'TD5' lamps are the same as the 300TDi ones but with a darker insert. If I could find some id Lamin-X my indicators and rear lights ;)
