Never :p I don't want the disgrace of a gaylander on the drive  even if its just visiting!

Don't be put off by malcontents! I've had five Discos, all 300Tdi and all but one have been brilliant. That one was a nightmare and didn't stay with me long! Currently have two. My old M-reg ES which I bought two and a half years ago and which has never missed a beat, even though the poor old girl is a bit battered and bruised and needs some tlc because the electrics are a bit iffy in some places and she needs a new rear door. But turn the key and we are in instant business every time. She cost me £450 I spent another £700 getting everything sorted and the chassis - which was perfect - waxoyled. So it can be done! My "new" one is P-reg, four lady owners, never been off road, I don't think, and has Kenlowe fan, new rear suspension (not sure about the front), new calipers and discs. That one was a major expenditure and cost £1500. Running costs for either one are 22.5p per mile on Shell V-Power diesel or 10p per mile on recycled cooking oil. They really are a helluva lot of car for the money.:rolly:

just for input, im on my first disco tdi, £1300 '96 i think..

good bits..
4 a/t tyres

bad bits..
loose handles/locks
n/s/r window died
peeled away the original carpet in boot and found i could put my finger through the rust!
founf out the rust under the arches had been sprayed with fibreglass resin and paint
fm arial busted
have to hold reverse "on" to engage the white lights
i needed to mastick EVERY window seal

But i have a freindly mechanic, all work done, plus labour, plus service and MOT £500, so for £1800 ive got a good solid (so we can tell) 300(i think) Tdi... shame its not ES.. oh and i ripped out the std speakers for off the shelf halfords jobs

I have found steps, solid metal bumpers, belly pan / steering guard on ebay for another couple of hundred, but thats where my paitiance will end i think!

Nice replies and thanks, still looking for the right one for me but it's gotta be quick as I'm hating walking everywhere :(

Got a 300tdi for sale on eBay but fits some off your criteria 181421436612

Landrover discovery | eBay

I'd have gone to check it out if I'd been closer, think last time I went that way without a motor I got a cab to Louth, coach down to Birmingham? then a coach back up to wherever it was. At least I bought the motor [VW camper] and could drive it home:D

Cheers for the reply;)

so you have actually viewed it biggee, whats wrong with it??.reported as chopped meat anyway.cheeky bugger.

Its a 51 plate, 13 years old, and a base model with cloth seats, no passenger airbags, no Climate control panel and not worth the money in my opinion and I did view the photos.
No mention of the chassis. All Disco II's look good on the surface but at 13 years old need to get under it and check very carefully.
I would think if not already problematic then the ACE won't last much longer without fault.
:)

ok thats great,i know about chassis rot on them, mine is having another one fitted at the minute.

Oh tell me more, have a 04 plate project and still undecided whether to re chassis or weld up and punt on.

long story,i am partially diabled, the garage i bought it from in Birmingham said it was a minter,12 month ticket etc etc.they brought it to me as i asked them to,looked at what i could.turned out they had painted the chassis black with some sort of gunge/filler type stuff.anyway someone came to give me a price to do other work on it and they told me the chassis is like a feckin weetabix.so now it is over at jamesmartins garage being fitted with a great condition chassis plus other work being done as well, hopefully i will get it back this week, wont I james.lol:D:D

Is it a new chassis or 2nd hand one, I had thought about a 2nd hand one (due to cost) but read a thread on here more or less outlawing that idea.
