Summats wrong then 'cos my Disco with standard bulbs and lighting works very, very well.

I'd check the bulbs first and the reflectors for cleanliness, then the bulb connectors, the lighting wiring/fuses, and the earth leads.

Mate had a similar problem, took him a couple of weeks to find and e ventually traced to muddy water coating the bulb, typical Landrover sealing!!!

you can get those pure white xenon bulbs that fit straight in without any mods. They are ment to be 30% brighter with the same power usage. Missus has em in her car and she reports its easyer to see stuff wif em in. Go for a pair of 8" spots for about £20-£30 a real of red and a real of black heavy cable some spade connectors a relay and an inline fuse holder £35 to £45 fitted yourself. Hook the relay into ya high beam and Bobs ya uncle... I see the light!!!!

cheers fellas, the bulbs and lenses are clean but they are dull compared to my other car, gonna get a set of 8" wipacs for the bull bar too

Hi, have you tried the the new xenon bulbs fae halfords there 90% better i put them in my 300tdi and they made a difference. Make sure there alligned correctly aswell ud b amazed at how much better they can be if alligned correctly.

Hope that helps.

Be careful when fitting up-rated bulbs. It's my experience that the standard wiring is just about capable of supplying enough current for the standard rated bulbs. If you up the wattages then make sure all the wiring and connections are sound, otherwise things could get a tad hot. Not enough to set fire, but certainly enough to melt wiring insulation at pinch points, for instance.

I do a lot of historic rallying and have tried a few lights in my time. If budget allows, keep to brands like Hella, Cibie, PIAA or Lightforce. The lenses are way better and you'll be fine with 55w bulbs. Also, don't be tempted by long range lenses, go for drive pattern, much more use in normal conditions.

My Disco 1 wears a set of 8" Hella Rallye 2000's (not the daylight running trucker type), bought off the 'bay for £55 the pair secondhand but immaculate. Incredible lights and look the part as well.

Paul D. The Xenon light bulbs are the same wattage rating. Its down to the brainy use of different gas mixes within the bulb to make it burn different and produce a cleaner light or somthing like that but I would aggree with the higher wattage "Off road" not road legal bulbs would draw too much lecky through the standard wiring and light switch.

They would be alreet. Its when you start looking at the 80w/100w rather than 55w/60w (or whatever they are) that you start running the risk of "Whats that smell?"... "What smell?"...fizz... "Hey... how come the lights have gone out and whys there flames coming out the front of me Landy?" Landy wiring were never that good at doing what its spost to do without over loading it more.

Check your earth's, I've had load's of probs lately from a dodgy battery earth, with one of the symtoms being low light from the headlamps. Sorted earth lead to bright lights:attention:

replaced the connector on the back of each headlamp with a new wire & seperate spade connector, lamps are now brighter...
