I know this has been covered before but a lot of the info is spread between various threads and some of it is contradictory so...

I am going to lift the body on my Disco by 2" as I have larger wheels and they catch a bit.

I am choosing a body lift because I want to keep the center of gravity a little lower than it would be if I did a suspension lift to help at any tipy bits.

So far I have bought the following.

  1. 2"in blocks with longer bolts.
  2. Transfer box lever extension.
  3. radiator mounts extensions.
  4. Boot floor support blocks (as I'd quite like my dog to still be where I left him at the end of a journey).
  5. 2" extended brake lines.
  6. Extended seat belt tie rods
  7. Can of plus gas
Is there anything missing?

I need to do the following before beginning to lift the body

  1. Remove both bumpers
  2. Undo the fuel filter mounting
  3. Undo the steering column bolts
  4. Undo the rear seat belt mounts.
  5. Loosen the fuel filler hose.
Is there anything else?

Obviously raise one side at a time carefully checking nothing else is being stretched or clamped.

A couple of points I can't find the answer to.

Its an Auto, do I need to do anything or will the selector just move with the body?

I also have working air con do I need more pins for the air con rad?

I hope to take lots of photos whilst doing it and see if I can get a definitive guide together in one place.

I can't help with the questions, but will be actively watching and waiting for pics, as I have an auto too, and have been toying with a lift, so will be nice to see it done in stages to help me.

If you don't mind me asking, how much have all the parts set you back so far?

Not at all, about £150

A little gutted you haven't done this already I saw your posts on some of the other threads and hoped you might be able to answer some of my questions.

Sorry mate, just gone for a 2" lift with mods and flexi arches....for now.......

Well ive started, first Auto related snag is the transmission cooler for the time being Ive undone it from the body. I should be able to move it up a little on fabricated brackets, pics to follow..

It looks like there is some give in the metal pipes for the gearbox rad but id rather move it up by hand later than force it up with the jack.

Bumpers are going up with the body, front looks easy as moving the bumper up to the higher hole with a bracket going to the lower hole. I have a plan for the rear but im not sure quite how it will sit when on the car.

It also ****ing down here and looks like its going to keep It up all day.

First thing that needs doing to to remove the bumpers.

I unbolted the trans cooler in case the solid metal pipes broke when the body was lifted.

Beautiful weather for working on a car

The body mount bolts were pigs to get out, to actually get the bolts out of the one on the rear outriggers and the ones at the rear of the engine bay you will need to remove the rubber bushes at the same time. I found it easier to put the replacement bolts in from the bottom and the nuts on the top. The rear two needed cutting off and the bolts had seized in the bushes.

As for the seatbelt bolts there were a right bastard I ended up just taking them out from inside the car even then I needed to cut one off with the grinder.

I also found that even with the wheels off the floor I needed to get a big bar in to open the gap up enough to get the spacers in.

I've given up for the day now one side is done and the other is ready to go tomorrow after work.

Not happy with the rear box of the exhaust hanging out from the bottom of the car, I can feel a side exit exhaust coming on.

Final body spacer is in.

Front end is back together, front bumper is a peice of **** to modify jut move it up one hole on the mounts. If you have an auto like me you will need to cut a notch out of the inner top mounts from the bumper to clear the trans cooler. I'm going to order somer longer bolts and simply make a bracket that goes along side all three holes for more support.

Rear is going to be more involved as thought. Im planning two extensions for the mounts, I also need to notch the bottom of the bumper to fit round the rear of the chassis.

Off the buy a step drill tomrrow.

Its not to technical, but its not an easy job.

Doing it on my own it took me five full evenings. The bloody thing has developed that EDC loss of power thing now though so I've got that to deal with but I'm having a week off first.
