Just wondering if anyone can help, what year did the Disco 1's with the 300TDi fitted become ECU driven and electronic throttle etc? Have googled, search to no avail, only thing I've come up with is Craddocks list a Disco 1 300tdi ECU as VIN TA701709 onwards but don't give a year....

From what I can find the 300TDi was introduced circa 93-94, is this right?

Cheers!

The ecu operated pumps were only fitted to late autos, early 300 autos were manual pump I'd take a guess at around the 97 mark but I wouldn't know to Be exact I'm sure there is an oracle online somewhere who will answer in more detail

Electronic diesel control (EDC) was fitted to the 1996MY tdi auto (as Craddock say a TA VIN) so it was available in 1995 onwards to 1998MY disco.

So it was an auto-only thing? Or did it eventually end up on the manuals too?

From what I got told by a Defender breaker some late 300tdi defenders had ECUs in them, I just assumed it was the same in Discos, but my knowledge is very limited I must admit!

only discos ,defenders do have a box for egr under seat that he may be confused by,whereas you can make edc manual gearbox and parts box gives some numbers for parts non are available and edc was only used on disco auto

EDC was used to increase performance and improve emission levels on autos, power and torque was increased to 120bhp and 221lb.ft.
A 3.9 V8 has 182bhp and 231lb.ft so not a lot more torque.

My misses's 300TDI auto Vin No TA17...has the EDC. Registered early 1996. The vin number figure for the engine is 7 rather than F. Is this to indicate a EDC fitted engine?

What do you need? My M reg 300tdi auto did not have the electronic improvements but does have an ECU.

I have it for sale if you need one.

Pm me if interested and I will give you the part number of the ECU

All I'm looking for at present is a date range of discos with as little electrical engine management type stuff as possible - for a future project! :)

Did you ever get any answer about the "7"? I ask because I cannot get the registration of my Defender 110 TD5 validated in Italy because the VIN (SALLDHM776 ...) is either reported as invalid or comes up with engine type "unknown".
