I have just bought a 300Tdi and i have heard that the 200Tdi rear prop is better because of the 'U' coupling between the prop and rear diff.

What i wanted to know is, is it worth doing this and how difficult is it doing it yourself?

I would appriciate any infomation you can provide :) :)

Cheers

not worth bothering with coupling does help damp shocks out of transmission and should last years or at least longer than uj

Absolutely no point. In 12 years in Zimbabwe, mine only needed changing once, even though the car did some serious off roading. They are smoother and as jamesmartin says they smooth the transmission. They're only £16.50 from Paddocks so they're not exactly expensive, and they are a doddle to change - just make sure the bolts follow the arrows.

Sounds good to me cheers for ur help people, i will only be doing greenlaning probably so should be fine :)

If you keep the rubber coupling and it needs replacing buy OE and stay away from britpart, last one I fitted didnt last a month and when i took it back I found out I wasnt the only one. Cheap couplings are cheap for a reason.

What he said!!! My transmission started making a horrid grinding noise about 3am on M1 - got towed home to find next morning the cheap Britpart part had shredded...

Ok no problem, do landrover themselves sell them still then? if not any suggestions of where to get them from?

The OE one I got from Paddocks was a GKN part. I suspect that is the same as the ones LR use! As do LR still sell them, they are fitted to Disco 2's as well, so I suspect yes.

but that would have come from britpart

If that's true then my advice to the OP would be when the donut needs replacing get a 200tdi prop and bracket unless there is different quality control between GKN and britpart branded.

I know when it came to ujs the GKN were serviceable and the britpart weren't. GKN also lasted a hell of a lot longer too.

Can't believe how poor quality the britpart couplings were and not just a one off either :(
