Buy a Disco 1 axle, grind off all the spring mounts, weld on leaf spring mounts, mess around with castor angles and stuff (not 100% sure about how that part works) and I think you have to mess about with the steering too...

My mates just put disco hubs on series axles making his own parts, it is possible but not if your not a competent mechanic and have lathes ect. Means he keeps the same track width but adds more reliable brakes.

I'd go for the wider axles tbh, only 3" in it and wider track will make it slightly more stable, can negate the width using different wheels or with arches

I could probably do it the way your mate has using the lathes at uni but its far easier just to chop and swap mounts then set castor. Other thing to move is shock mount I think

He was Turing to keep the series look I think and to be different as I think only 1 other person has done it that we know of,

Suppose the decision is easy though :)

He wants originality I need strength and CV's cos I'm fitting a 380 with an LT230 so need the permanent 4x4 axles.

Will be modding the transfer box to 2wd/4wd for fun though once I work out what parts I need to make up! Not paying aschroft prices when I have a workshop to use……

They wanted £95 and £175 +VAT for a new pinion and a second hand bellhousing when I picked up a recon R380 with a new bellhousing for £250

Haha he would be keeping originality apart from the 200tdi parabolics modded interior ect, I just don't think he waned to add extended arches and loose the series look.

Although he needs strength as he blew up his gearbox the other day

I'll have a spare 2a box within the next few weeks ;)

How much? does it have sync on any of the gears??

Have either of you with uprated front axles uprated the servo too?

He has not yet but I think he will, although we mot'd it and the brakes still had 60% efficiency but the disks were weaker than drums ... Still bedding in though,

IMHO there's not that much wrong with drums if they're regularly serviced/ adjusted they just clog up with mud if you use it offroad alot which is where his disks come in

i don't see why you "need" cv's if you're modding the LT230 to selectable 4x4 as that's how a Series transfer box works, unless of course you intend to be using 4x4 predominantly on tarmac

i am considering swapping an LT77 and modified LT230 into my 88" eventually and have no intention of messing with my front axle

simply because I wont be making the mod for a while

If you want to fit disco axles but don't want to fit defender arches use swb rims as they dont have much offset, they fit nice and snug to the body so you don't need to alter the arches ;)

Yeah but then you lose steering lock, and he does trials with us so lock is important
