1. I've been suffering from bad knees for quite a long time now and always wondered what caused it. until I drove the company's ****roen berlingo for a day and went back to the hippo. The pedals on the Hippo are amazingly hard to press and it's what I suspect was causing the issue.

Question: is there a way to soften the pedals (i.e changing master cylinders or anything)?

2. I spoke to my garage about the possibility of getting a non-road legal racecar which needed towing on trailer. He said that Hippos are not made for that kinda job especially if I was gonna encounter steep hills ( which being a hillclimb car has a chance to break down at the bottom of the hill). He suggested a 90 or disco instead.

Question: Is this true? I've seen hippos pull caravans and boats. and i've seen fwd cars pull race cars

If both questions are in the negative I think I may miss the hippo :(

I think the TD4 or possibly the v6 should be okay for towing. My parents were told the early 1.8 & L series diesel weren't great tow cars when they bought their Disco 1.

Get an auto. Solved all my leg and back issues.

I think that's how it's gonna end up. Don't like autos though, our auto TD4 is giving some problems that no one seems to be able to solve and since it controls the gears it has become limpish

No problems just make sure you don't let the engine revs down to low , some people let the revs drop down then time they''ve changed gear the car is out of the torque band
Trev

My 127,00 mile TD4 auto is okay.

What do you mean by limpish? How can a gearbox make the car limpish?

My engine feels great with the EGR delete, BMW cyclone crankcase breather, silicon hoses, remap and the new small back box.

i personally had to buy an auto td4 for my back and leg and after doing the mods did make a lot of difference

however as u don't like autos, have u got one of these synergy boxes

really transformed it, especially with the added extra of the dashboard switch where u can just alter it for more torque etc as u go along

got rid of the flat spots etc and improved the mpg to around 38mpg on a run

Freelander is more than capable of towing a lightweight race car. The number I have seen in th last few days towing big(ish) caravans is unreal!

I don't think a 90 is gonna help your knees either!

What engine is your hippo? Is the clutch arm free or has it partially seized? The hydraulic side of things cannot be made lighter,

But have you considered moving your driving position so you are pushing the pedals differently?

Somehow vacuum is being lost into turbo, leaving gate open and boost can't build up. on an auto it tends to keep revving up till its got enough boost since you cant control the gears yourself

its a 2004 TD4 Manual. Clutch and co are all new so I don't reckon they're seized :/

I've had mixed opinions on these boxes (ronbox, synergy etc) guys on here seem to like it. I had an Irish friend (mechanic) who said 'pshhhh not in a million years' and a friend of mine said he'd rather remap and decat
