Hi, I've searched and cant find an answer. Rear diff gone, got a spare front diff. Is it possible to put front diff assembly in rear axle? I'm aware the flange has to be changed. Just need to know if I can use diff or not.
Cheers

You haven't said what vehicle you're talking about but if they're both rover axles then yes I think you can.

Pretty sure they're interchangeable. Flanges will be different if you've got the rubber donut thingy on the back but can be changed easy enough.

Hi chaps, thanks for advise. Did diff swap this afternoon n no probs. Counted teeth to make sure ratio ok. Filler as mentioned above is in casing not diff, so no probs there. All working a treat. Cheers

Nice one:D You needn't have worried about the diff ratio they're all 3.54:1.

Eh? The drain and filler plugs are in the axle casing not the diff.

Not that familiar with Discoveries, but Series motors and early Range Rovers didn't have a plug in the casing at the rear, relied on the filler/level plug in the diff.
