Only does about 1k miles between changes anyway, so not like it gets pushed hard in mine.
 
Sorry James do you mean EP is 'old fashioned mineral oil and perfectly good to use?
yes though often ep90 isnt allways avalable so i use ep80w90 or ep75w90 semi or mineral, your right with the regular changing, i do all landies i see once a year at least

I have a lot of paper work with my TD5 from the previous owner but I cant find anything that indicates that the diffs or transfer oil have been changed so they'll get done.

I do mine twice a year - once in the Spring after the winter and once in the Autumn read for the winter !
 
just stick in the past guys, i'm sure that even sunflower oil has lubrication capability................ i'll say that again ONLY once:THe OLDER AND MORE WORN A GEAR OR ENGINE BECOMES THE BETTER USE THE BEST OIL IN IT to prolonge it's life if you want.... the web is full of bad reviews about LR unreliability which IMO is the result of bad orientated mercantilism of some(or more) cheapskates who want to save money on the vehicle's lubrication/maintainance. .... knock yourselves ourt guys and save money by bastardising your own vehicles... i rest my case:confused:o_O:eek:

i'm wondering why dont you better drink the most cheap and bad smelling beer though... you could save money on it, as long as you dont consider the vehicle as being a family member dont expect so much from it:rolleyes:

As you say your advice based on experience, and not official methods but that's not true. Or is it?

Your maintenance routines should in reality be distance based, with a nod to time in use. For instance, "the book" advises that you replace the engine oil and filters every 6000 miles, but I actually do fewer than that per year so I find it convenient to service the vehicle annually at the time of the MoT.
There is more likelihood of the engine oil being contaminated, usually with carbon and combustion by-products than the oils in the transmission units, so based on that assumption, and the fact that I do fewer than three or four thousand miles per year, it won't extend the replacement period by a damaging amount if in the interests of economy I replace the transmission lubrication, gearbox, transfer box and both differential cases every two years. I try to remember to grease the prop shafts regularly also, at least annually.
If you are using the vehicle for significantly more than 6000 miles per year, then your maintenance routines should reflect this higher mileage and the lubrication fluids replaced more often than annually.

what's your problem mate???, do you feel overlapped by my knowledge? at least i made this warning for the posterity at the time when i joined this forum 10 years ago and i let it there... meanwhile i've gained some experience too helping a lot of people without charge, more than you can just think of... so GET OFF MY BACK PLEASE, experience worths nothing without perpetual study but how would you know that as your experience is huge and no need for innovation ............:rolleyes:
