Want to put some oil in the back diff, but its stuck really solid.

I know they are mounted on a fairly thin piece of metal and was unsure how much pressure I can apply without ripping it apart... whats the usual way round this?

Before the "you can't do that you'll blow the universe up" brigade turn up and have a go, you'll obviously use your common sense wont you?.................................................................................'course you will, see I knew there want owt to worry about.

Have you tied a bit of surreptitious heat?

I really like to use the arc welder for those jobs, I put a nut over the stubborn bolt/plug/whatever and then lay a nice big bead down the middle. Sure, oxyacetylene works too, but the arc welder causes less collateral heating.

Put in a short 1/2in breaker bar hit once or twice with lump hammer into square hole then hit end of breaker bar good old fashioned shock should do the trick.-----BB

I'll have a go the next time I its not ****ing it down, which I think might be for some time... Mind you, don't make a difference cos if am indoors am plumbing the bathroom these days... still get sprayed with water!

why not just take it fer a run, this warms the diff oil up, which in turn warms the casing up, then jump out grab a breaker bar, dive under the landy, and undo it quick while its still warm ;)
