You didn't get +2" shocks for the rear?

Fair enough, but I still think the locker gives you more offroad ability that the flashy bits people stick on their cars (including lifts)

Nope but I have since got hold of a set of -2" shock droppers. which was my intention once funds became available.

Nice.

I guess my point is just that if whatever you're doing means that you have to have a 2" lift, then it would probably help to have lockers instead. If you're doing something where you don't need lockers, you probably don't need a lift. Tyres, always, but not a lift.

But thats a whole other debate.

The single best upgrade other than tyres would be lockers no question but its expensive but thats because they simply work. std motor on lockerd vs most the abortions you see on ebay some other forums I'd take a std with lockers Everytime!!!

Redhand What rate are your spings?? Free height? no of coils?

STD height HD springs on 50mm spacers. I don't do extreme laning so all I was looking for was bigger tyres to improve ground clearance. (Have fitted 265/75/16's BFG Muds)

but a lift saves having to cut the vehicle to pieces to prevent the tyres from catching the arches. especially if you havwe a 5door disco.

Ah, but like you said, if it's a question of money, a lift costs £££, a camel cut is free ;)

Have yu ever cut a 5 doors rear arches and back doors to get bigger tyres on?? it int pretty  unless you then fork out for wheelarch extensions to cover the mess.

my 90 is factory standard and let me think i have never got stuck so why spend money on some thing that the factory dont supply ??

As im not into compititions a locker and compressor etc and cost would be pointless for me. But a couple of years ago in yourshire in my old disco 2 i did get stuck a couple of times due to wheels being off the ground, and went on to cause damage trying to go on, in that situation a £300 detroit would have come in very handy, so if and or when i have the spare money that would be what i would buy, really for piece of mind

haha I haven't, no, I can imagine it would be pretty nasty work

Right, fair enough, but the question was regarding people who have spent money on things the factory don't supply, like lifts, flashy toys and stuff, but not lockers.

Anyway I think the answer is just "to each his own" :scratching_chin:

The thing here is there are many forms of using your motor.

many people will never do anything that will get them halted

many will and many more will spend a fortune so they shouldn't get too stuck.

Horses for courses and all that.

We could go on for hours but I have to get out in the rain and work on my trials motor!!

Me i like my soft suspension and lockers!!

lol!!

For the record I have a detoit in the back and soon to be fitted nasty lockright front locker! but that needs some extra work like freewheeling hubs ect for my 90

Just to make it a bit more er interesting:

Here is a video of trials when I was a kid in my brothers comp safari motor the suspension is setup for racing stiff not soft as it should be for trials. Lockers on this motor or any of them means they would have made it up all the climbs. You will have to forgive my old mans enthusiaistic comments. As a family we have always been into Greenlaning trials and compsafari since I can remember.
