sorry guys i know there are loads of these threads on here but cant find an answer or work this out for the life of me. before i even bother explainin whats wrong i'll ask a simple one that i hope someone has a magic answer to. how can i tell for sure if the diff lock is engaging on a 110? (salisbury rear) no lights on dash and having a hard time finding the switch underneath to test for any voltage. tried the bulb in dash, nothing. oh and i need a hub cap if anyone has some they could sell me?? or very generously donate :rolleyes:

if you can un screw the gear leaver panel you will see it in front of you drivers side
have u tried one of the other bulbs? swop for a bulb that is working and check the earth wire from the switch by connecting it to the other side. light should come on if so need a switch if not press the other wire against the gearbox to earth it should come on if not its the wire upto dash might help a bit :)
 
Jack up one front wheel and see if you can rotate it , if you can spin it around then your diff lock is Dissengaged .

If you cant spin it then its engaged .


If Im right its only one wire for the diff lock light and thats the earth from the bulb :) .

you will need to jack front and rear on one side to check that if the diff lock is engaged
the diff lock only locks the front and back axles
so if you got one side up in the air both wheels will be stiff diff lock engaged
only one will spin disengaged
 
reg im a bit confused as to why u say put both wheels up on one side? surely the front axle wouldnt be affected by the back axle?
for example in a 'stuck' situation, one wheel on the front axle could spin but none of the rest, couldn't it? but then with the lock on the front two would always spin together but possibly not the rear 2?

or have i got that wrong?

Yes ur wrong I was confused when i first got a land rover
on a land rover there are 3 diffs 1 in each axle and 1 in the transfer box
The one in the transfer box is the leaver you move to engage the diff lock this then locks the the diff in the transfer box what this does is lock drive to both axles so you will always have 2 wheels spin when your stuck to have drive on all wheels you will need a diff locker in each of the front and rear diff like a arb air locker and when dis engaged only 1 wheel will spin hope this isnt too confusing for you #:)

the diff lock locks the centre diff so you will always have 1 wheel from each axle spinning. Your are thinking of axle diff lockers such as the arb
 
oh right cheers guys. so jack up 1 front and 1 back wheel and see if i can spin just one wheel. then engage diff lock and try again. great.

its not how i guessed they worked, is it really that much help then? i mean, surely 1 wheel on the front and back will always have more traction than the other? may look into some lockers now then. and im having trouble finding the switch for the dashboard diff locked light, does anyone have a pic of it? maybe on a removed box, i just want to pop the metere on it and see if theres any current there.

(want it all running right for 'water lane' was it? on june 6th)
