With engine out and a gearbox mounting off, I could finally get to diff lock light swith which has been broken for a while. Took ages to get it out, one flat at a time! New one on. Before i make it inaccessible again, do i just wind it in all the way or does it need to be set at a certian depth at all so its not activating all the time?

Dont screw it all the way in, you will foul the mechanism.

Engage diff lock, screw it in till light comes on, check light goes off when you take it out of lock. If all good tighten locknut on switch and Bob's your auntie.

Ok easier said than done with engine out and everything disconnected! how about if I screw it in all way, with diff lock not on, then do a continuity (earthing) test on it, unscrewing till it doesnt earth (assuming ot does to start)?

Hmmmm, I'm cautious because I had problem for months engaging difflock, and it was cause the switch was too far in/botton thingumy sticking.

Worth a try I guess. But I have a sneaky feeling the switch could still be too far it. Only one way to see :)

Just use a test lamp and battery and stick it in diff lock, screw it in till the test lamp comes on. Simple
