Greetings All,

I am recently the owner of a 1984 110 2.5 N/A petrol Land Rover (Single Cab, soft Top).

I have little experience driving land rovers. except for driving my dads series land rove when i was ten years old.

In terms of the Transfer select gear, is it that there are two options here, high transfer, and low transfer. I have tried out these two options but i am not clear as to how the difff lock relates to these options and how to select it.

Also, where can i get an owner's manual for this model.

regards

Thanks for your reply. Perhaps i should be more specfic. My transfer lever is an aftermarket one, and thus has no markings, so i am unsure as to the options here. I have only managed to get three options (left Up, Neutral and left Down). Based on my research, i think i should be able to get two more options (right up, and right down). Is this correct? These last two options should be high and lower transfer without diff lock. however, it is not going in.

Shouldnt it be like this pic here?

It should yes. You don't want to be driving it on the road if it's stuck in difflock. Is the difflock light on the dashboard lit constantly ?

lever only has two functions up /down (high and low) and side to side (dif lock and out )the diagram on knob is confusing ,as you should be able to push side ways wherever lever is forwards or backwards, the two functions are completely seperate ,lever just operates both theres an outer shaft that operates high and low ,and an inner that operates linkage for diff lock there is no relationship between both it should go in either direction i would have a look at lever assembly and linkage if movement seems restricted

If diff lock is on, there should be a light on the dash that says so. Its like a H on it's side. If you cant get it out of diff lock, you may need to reverse a couple of meters or so.

Thanks Much.

I checked out the parts number catelogue in the sticky, but it specified that it is for 110's from 1987 onwards. Where can i get the same information but for a 1984 110.

I hope you havn't been driving too much with ur diif lock on. Move the lever to the right and give it a good shove forwards. If it dont work try this:
Both levers in neutral
Clutch in
Engage 1st gear
Clutch out
Clutch in again
Engage High range (right and forwards)

And as above do you have a diif lock light on ur dash?

Thanks Much.

the high low diff lock works the same on all defenders whatever age and disco 1s you can change hi low in what ever position sideways lever is ,even if lever is in middle towards left of vehicle is allways diff lock towards right is allways out of difflock but hi/low can be reversed depending on which way linkage fitted but as ssaid should be forward low backwards high .linkagew for both often needs setting up properly on older vehicles as people mees it up and it wears in pivots
