I am finding it difficult to keep up with the chaps who have fitted rear diff locks! I am torn between an ARB airlocker and a Detroit! Can anyone shed some light on the subject?

Pros and cons of both, I have Detroit and love it.

The subject has been done to death on here, just do a search.

Detroit/Eaton lockers go into millions of trucks and suv's yearly. Just love mine. Better than 2 wheel drive (opposite corners calling it 4x4)

I cant give you any info re the ARB but i have recently found out i have a detroit locker in the rear and can honestly say that for on road use i never even noticed it was there, I have had a few discos now without a rear locker and never even noticed the detroit in there but off road it is awesome, it has made my disco into a bit of a beast:D

You will not be saying that if you snap a shaft and it blow it's self to bits

Just under 12 month my one lasted

You are looking at the wrong lockers :p

Why buy lockers that have failings

ARB leak air
Ditroits blow up

You want a Ashcroft locker

Buy it from crown diffs it's cheaper than Ashcroft's

Could you be so kind to give a failure rate for them. Or did you thrash the **** out of it and then broke??????????? 1 out of how many million on the road. You ever had a tyre failure???????????? oh had a flat tyre those( what ever brand are ****) so buy such and such.

Detroit locker failures in recent years have been very common. There have been quite a few threads on the subject

Ashcroft stopped selling the Rover style Detroit due to failures and poor support from Eaton.**He still sells the Salisbury ones.

They **** simple :p

Like I say buy Ashcroft's no fails to date

Anyone had any experiance with the kam electronic locker?

Not heard anything bad about them but you have to weld a diff pan on the front of your axle to accommodate it.

Thats what put me off!

I got a good deal on my ARBs so i bought them, there been fitted at the moment(thanks Fesuvious) :D

All i should have to do when im back is wire them in :D woop woop!

Sorry to hear that some people have had trouble with Detroit locker. For my own part I can only say I have had mine about 18 months, Im out in the fields most days,Lots of towing a cattle trailer, bit of road work and a bit of laning. And Ive had no problems at all. Its been great for traction and totally trouble free.I wonder if they are broken in very hard charging comp. situations and when people are running oversize wheels and tyres?
Ive had ARB inSeries before and they were good too but Ive had agg with the compressors. They have the advantage of no effect on road handling at all tho the detroit doesnt make my vehicle unmannerly on the road.
Never tried Ashcroft diff. but Ive had other stuff from them and Its been excellent. I dont think I knew they made them when I bought my DL or I would have tried that

the detroit you bought was 2nd hand when you got it, you dont know how it was treated before you got it,

ive a detroit in my 110 and its been good, but does effect the road driving a little

now the truth comes out.............. With millions going on the road every year and a company which is a leader in the world for locking differentials...... they don't make junk, just first class gear/kit

Yes I did buy it second hand, off a member on here, but it had very little use as it was bought buy mistake, he wanted the LSD diff not the locker.

Your not useing a rover diff John :p and don't get the same problems with the salisbury axle

It was the shaft snapping that blow the locker up

You will not get that with an Ashcroft or ARB

Same as anything buy cheap buy twice

Must be a reason they are half the price of most lockers on the market :scratching_chin:

Ashcroft's lockers it the way to go

for my sake i hope the ARB's are good enough :p :D

Both arbs i had in me rr bobtail were faultless and made minemeat of obstacles that others were getting stuck in/on
Sometimes lazyness sets in and u find yourself using them just cos there there takes s bit of the fun out of it but also very satisfying when get thru summit others couldnt
