I am going to do an all round oil change. Does anyone know where I can get the square headed implement to undo the drain plugs and what all the sizes are?

As you can probably see, I'm new to this!

Thanks. Is a ratchet drive something that Halfords would stock?

I also have one drain plug with "convex" square plug rather than "concave". What would I need to for that?
 
:doh: As I have a socket set and am used to hexagonal heads the obvious did not occur to me.

Thanks for the rather unnecessary comment Gratch, it makes a complete novice and new member feel very welcome.

Just a word of advice -take it or leave it as you wish .......as I have found over a number of posts.....**** taking is the norm here..... take it in the spirit its given......and then dish it back to them by the bucket.... eventually you get some proper advice inbetween all the banter:)

cheers Minty.... just noticed tonight that I am now a senior member.... how hillarious is that:D:D:D........ god help anyone who doesnt realise all you got to do is to be able to talk a lot, and hang around the site a lot, to qualify as a senior member, rather than know anthing....... mind you it'd be a good laugh if I started to give advice to any other newbies- sure I could blag it a bit :D

Sorry to return the thread back to the topic temporarily...

But on a vagely similar note - to drain the oil out of my axles i have a big plug with a slot in it. Stuck the biggest screw driver i could find in, turned with lots of force and nothing. not even a hint of budging. The axel is full of oil, i just feel its probably the same oil it left the factory with so any suggestions (not involving new axles / grinders) for getting it out appreciated!
 
The slot has a concave bottom - there is a special tool that fits but I riffled through my toolbox until I found a spanner with a curved end that fitted (it was a plumbers spanner I think). Clean the slot out, snuggle the spanner edgewise into the slot then hit the other end of the spanner with a big hammer. Don't rely on the spanner surviving.
