How did those bolts rust though? :/ Isn't that area supposed to be sealed from water?

No not sealed. But looking at the fuel pipes it maybe a good idea to have a close look at the brake pipe that goes over the tank.

Who measures his dimensions. One of the girls or do you have a bloke who stands with his hand on his hip and a tap measure in the other? :D:D

Are the nuts on the plastic pipe side replacable? Just wondering if it would be easyer to pull the plastic pipe off and use new nuts

They will have olives or similar compressed onto the pipe...

You can cut the pipe, but you will need to have new nuts and olives to replace them with.

Also you'll need to check the pipe is long enough to reach once cut....

Managed to get the nuts off but it want easy
Straight forward Job though took all of 2 hours over 2 days and thats over half hour with the 2 rusty nuts
Turned glow plugs on pump ran ,turned key to crank and she fired up on about the 4th turn
My multi meter is slow to respond to voltage change but it seemed to run during cranking and runs when started
Cheers guys for all your advice without it i would still be sat there statching my arse thinking wtf

Well I am exhausted reading all 15 pages! How's the head and the wall Wammers. Gfromleeds, did you check the condition of the brake pipe that goes over the tank as recommended by Wammers ? When I changed my intank pump,I dropped the tank and was horrified by the condition of the pipe. Not only is it a MOT failure but also dangerous. I did the two flexies at the same time, easy with no tank. Regards:)

Do we now have one saying its runs when cranking and its not a 99? Maybe I'm not so mad then :D

They didn't start making year 1999 models on the first of January 1999. There is a cut off point late in 1998 from 1998 model to 1999 models. WA VIN prefix can be late 97 til early 1999. XA VIN number can be 1999 into 2001. There may well be 1999 models with lift pump on with cranking registered very late in 1998. If you look at your cars paperwork there should be a year and month of manufacture listed on it. But i can assure you lift pump on with cranking was a mod along with many others introduced for MY 1999.

I couldent see over the top of the tank but checked the pipes under the car leading up to it and they look like theve been changed in the last maby 5years however i noticed alot very rusty bolts under the back end..... I think maby at some point in its life this car had been used to launch boats in the sea or at least it looks like salt water rot
That said the chassis and floor look fine

These mods came along with plastic manifold and egr my 98 has neither :)
