After the simple test of seeing if fuel is comming out of the clear feed pipe with engine cold using glow plug timer and simultaneously cranking if no fuel comes out, get to root cause is go to the last point t of electrical feed ie connection block to pump behind rear right under arch
If there power to block terminal its your pump if no power feed work back,cable,relay fusebox feed .
 
Becuse if you have a faulty pump especially if the tank it low the fip Uses almost all if its fuel can't suck anymore up thus you get air in the clear feed pipe
You cannot suck air into a closed system, the only way the FIP can suck air in is from a leak for a cracked lift pipe, an empty tank or leaks on the filter housing. The car will run with a duff in tank pump with plenty of fuel in the tank.

And what happens when it's low and can't draw fuel anymore ??? As its not strong enough that's why there is a primer intank pump
 
I did notice that when i was cranking the bubbles in the feed pipe moved towards the fip but when i stoped cranking they started moving towards the filter! Does that nean owt?

I got it running using cold start (i know dont tell me i shouldent)
And once fired drove it for about 5 miles. Ran perfect got home turned off restarted fine
Im leaving it an hour see if it still starts. Gona have to do the injector tomorrow now! Thats if i can find somone with the socket to do it!

Air is getting back from the leak off pipes or the duff injector, the FIP cannot clear the air with no pressure from the tank pump until it gets enough revs. They will run without the in tank pump, just not well.
Nowt wrong with a little blast of Easy Start as long as it's not regular.
 
It cavitates, there is nowhere for air to get into the fuel line unless there is a pipe failure.

Theres a leak in the injector so would that cause that much air to get in and fuel to back flow?
Then a failed in tank pump makes it unable to suck it through?
 
Your leak is in the injector isn't it?near the wires casing so yes it could but not if its the seal in the head as there is air there anyway .

that's right its leaking from where the wire goes in
im having I right job finding a socket to take it out only place I've found one locally is a parts shop near me but its nearly £40 found them on eBay cheaper but no one answers me when I ask if its a deep socket! plus it seems I've left it too long to wait for delivery
has anyone within 20miles of Leeds on hear got one ?

Sorry just typed in BMW m51 came up with that my bad you must be able to get one or cut a small channel out of a deep /7 mill socket using grinder
