Has anyone had any experience of them, i was thinking i may drop one into my landy (its just a toy).
I only know one person who tried it and had a bad time with it and took it back out again, is this a one off or are they a poor choice.

Thanks, its the chevvy lump i was thinking about, i was expecting a lot of torque and possibly the need to upgrade the drive train, so apart from them eating g/boxes, are the actual engines any good
 
Knew a guy years ago who had a 6.2 GMC fitted to his RR Classic. It took a few cooked torque converters and some different transmission oil coolers to finally get it right but what a machine!
But as vougese39 said it will destroy transmissions - I doubt a manual gearbox will cope with the torque
 
I rebuilt a GM 6.2 a couple of years ago to go into a boat, a set of pistons, rings, mains, bigends, rebore and a full gasket set was a shade under £1800, gaskets were a couple hundred quid but the pistons and rings were very expensive.

been there..rr 6.2 gmc trans chewed x god knows how many times,despite being beefed up. DONT GO THERE!!! You have been warned.
 
also the glow plugs burn out if you time them on even a second too long and the starter motor burns out v-quick if you dont leave them on long enough, thats what put me off!
 
drop a 6cylinda cummins 150 in the old girl you can pick up a good clean 130/150 turbo for as from £400 up they are pretty much bullet proof you can use the flywheel from a 300tdi engine it costs around 80 - 100 to have a backing plate drilled machined etc same engine mounting point 20 mins for good sparkie to sort electrics and if you fit an air tank you have on board compressed air tyres tools etc i can get a blueprint for the backing plate to be made up, you do need to uprate the suspension springs and get a re geared transfer box at as later date but not essential good mpg as well and great sound
 
they are anything from 130bhp all the way up to 250bhp+ but they are heavy bastards. the 150 not got loads of horse power but the torque is fantastic and a landy is nothing compared to the 7.5ton truck, it is possible to get a 160bhp - 180bhp in the newer cummins 4.5l 4 cylinda turbo but loads of electric crap on them to go wrong. the cummins 6bt sounds propah PHAT there is a clip on youtube of a defender/series (who knows number plate says it should have leaf springs but its got coils a DVLA naughty i suspect lol) with the cummins 6bt looks pokey and sounds great
