I am new to the forum and see there has been loads of chat about engine swaps. I started off thinking about putting a 200tdi in my classic (no electrics would be nice) then thought of something different like a cummins four cyclinder (still no electrics), Has anyone any other interesting engine suggestions.
The six cyclinder bmw engine might be a possibility or should I say the engine from a vauxhall omega. This might sound dippy but could the bmw engine be de-ecu'd with no electronics, swapping round fuel injectors and so forth.
Cheers

I had thought about the v8 already but have read conflicting reports about the weight. It's very heavy etc etc but then read no worse than a tdi with added winch/underbody protection/etc etc.
Is there a over heating problem that persists with this engine!

my mate had a 6.2 v8 non turbo in his classic.
cost a bomb to buy it,weighed a ton, sounded like a tractor, drank loads of fuel and he had to spend a fortune on gearbox and suspension upgrades pluss the rest of the stuff to go with it. why? oh well it was his money lol and he never got it back when he sold it for peanuts cos nobody wanted a huuuuuggggge bloomin engine to run lol
just my opinion ;)

That's the sort of impression I got while googling.
Anyone have any thoughts on de ecu'ing a diesel or is it impossible!
Take a v6, add mechanical fuel pump & new injectors etc or is really a no-no...

I thought there were problems with using a megasquirt with a diesel for instance unless you were lucky the voltage would be different for the injectors!

Forget that V8 GM, right pain as been said not much difference in fuel consumption that a V8 petrol, brakes don't work properly, due to the weight of the thing.

Also look at the basic thing insurance, I had costings for one, my insurance company at the time wanted another £150 from me, even thought the BHP was the same as a 3.5.

Have a look at some of the Jap engines, Izuzu 2.9 seems to be a popular choice.

my mum had a GMC 6.2 in a 5 door classicand it wa a really nice drive, bags a power the best sound ever!her had a full stainless exhaust.they ar loads better than a petrol, bags of power.it'll pull just as well empty as it does with the trailer on carrying 2 ton.on the down side any conversion is a pain in the arse, and the GMC parts can be a bogger to get hold of! i think if i wa yu i would try and get a perkins phaser 4 litre turbo, bags of power loads of torque,ya can get parts anywhere, and perkins ar one of the best engines ya can get.buts just my opinion, theyll be loads a people on here that disagree wi me.hope this helps
