For around a week I have been noticing an intermittent smell of diesel during the first 5 to 10 minutes of driving the car.

I don't seem to notice it after that period.

I have looked under the bonnet, but cannot see anything obvious / no wet areas.

Anyone have any suggestions where I should look?

Its an 06 TD4

It's the vehicles attempt to set itself on fire, perfectly normal and was an optional extra on higher spec models I believe.

Could be the high pressure fuel pump.
Known to leak 1st thing in the morning when the seals are past best.......check the under tray to see if it is wet.

also just check down in the hole where the injectors sit, a couple of us including myself have suffered with a bit of diesel getting past the copper seal , on the bottom of the injector after a time it goes hard like bitumen.

I have looked there and saw nothing obvious.

I am off this weekend so weather allowing, I will have a good look for the cause.

Strangely, since posting here about the intermittent smell of diesel during the first 5 to 10 minutes after start-up, I am no longer smelling it.

So, either I have a cold or posting here about a problem is enough to fix the problem. :D

I shall monitor it.
