I have got a 300 Series TDi Discovery that's non running.

There's about half a tank of fuel left in it, and I'm keen to remove it.

The problem is, the car doesn't run.

Anyone got an ideas as to how I can remove it?

Isn't there something in the fuel tank to stop you doing this?

If there's not, I'll need to get some suitable tubing to do this.

What's the best diameter to get that'll reach the bottom of the tank without any problems?

Unless there's another way?

You will struggle to syphon the last 1/4 of fuel from a disco because of the way the fuel pipe enters the tank. If you do syphon it, then any piece of pipe will do, a piece of hose pipe will do, and put a weight on the end of it so it will fall down into the tank.

I would undo the drain plug.
 
I've just removed the last few gallons out of a Rover 220. I connected a positive supply to the inertia switch wire to fuel pump and connected a length of clear plastic tube to the pipe to manifold clip.

Pumped the fuel out until loads of air began to emerge.

If you have a wiring diagram maybe you could do the same.

Did the same with a freelander about a year or so ago. This time opened the access panel (under rear seat). Found a connector that matched that of the fuel pump. Wired up the positive and negative to a battery 10 m away from vehicle and connected a clear tube to the fuel pipe to manifold connector.
 
Probably not since the pump is mechanical (why would they want any other way!!!!) in the 300. However, get her indoors, child etc... to stand and pump it into a container by putting the input hose to the injector into a container, then you sit inside listening to the radio telling her your checking the fuel guage.
 
Take the tank off and pour the diesel out through the filler, the way you put it in . That way you get it all out. Or as Tesco says Every little bit helps, or just drill a hole in the bottom of the tank.

Dunno but he's probably done it by now, unless he stops for more tea and biscuits then I do.
 
Right here's 2 idea's from me.

1. Park it up in Liverpool!!!! problem with this Idea is you won't see the diesel again, they might be forgiving and leave the disco if its a non starter.

2. you will need a length of pipe to go from the bottom of the tank to the containers, An airline and a large rag. 1: place pipe in tank but don't let it touch the bottom and block the end. 2: place airline in the filler neck. 3: wrap the rag as tight as you can get around the pipes and filler neck to get an airtightish seal. 4:preasure the tank up with the airline (BUT GO EASY YOU WONT NEED MUCH PREASURE). ALSO BUILD THE AIR IN THE COMPRESSOR UP AND LEAVE IT A WHILE THE LAST THING YOU WANT IS HOT AIR TO WARM THE DIESEL UP (heat+fuel+oxygen=BANG) In the tanker business this is known as a top discharge only under stricter regulations, I usually charge for this information :D

Hi,
There is a rubber hose connecting the fuel filler pipe to the tank. It is only held on with jubilee clips. Undo the clips, remove the rubber pipe and stick a bit of hose straight into the tank and syphon. You will get all bar the last couple of litres out. Remember when syphoning.... Spit, don't swallow!!:eek:
